For Sale New member intro

This site may earn a commission from merchant affiliate
links, including eBay, Amazon, Skimlinks, and others.

I'm in the process of searching for a 40 and new to the site. We live in Traverse City in northern Michigan and I'm retired.
I'll be following the for sale posts and probably ask questions regarding ones posted or others I find elsewhere. Not into doing a restore or buying one, looking more for a reliable driver that isn't trashed via rust or messed up mods.

Welcome!
Post up What your ideal cruiser would be when you figure that out and someone will reach out to you with some options. Things to consider are year, Pre 78 or 79+ or even older early 70's and late 60's. Stock 4 speed or something with the 5 speed swapped into it. Original or will you be happy to substitute some options like engine, different seats, add on PS.

Consider A/c, PS which can be difficult but added on with a little extra cash.

Oh, bring some cash!!!! Nothing can drain a bank account quicker then the landcruiser addiction. You may be broke in the end but you will still have a darn awesome vehicle!

Cheers!

Not looking for a fully original model but would probably pass on a engine swap, fearful of an incomplete/incorrect installation along with accessory issues. Soft top or hardtop is OK. Upgraded front seating is OK. Like to find one with an upgraded or recently replaced suspension package and disc brakes but not a huge lift and monster tires with body cutouts. Less rust the better and paint color or condition isn't important, really want that elusive model that lived in a dry climate away from road salt and isn't rusted through in multiple places. I'm old enough to have experienced Michigan winters, road salt and what it did to vehicles of the FJ40 era.

Are most of the 40's spray coated on the underside to hide issues or to protect what's there or just to look good ? Seems like a lot of them are coated with bedliner stuff underneath, inside and even exterior.

Hello Ed, I think I got the perfect for you, this is our first car to be send it to the US, so we are open to let it go for almost the half of their value, the car is ready to be customized to your liking.

I will upload the pictures from this car and from our last restoration.
but you can see it better in the link Nobsa Project Fj40 1970 and Fj40

Description

This 1970 Toyota FJ40 has only two owners on its record, we started the restoration process on February 21, 2017 in a non-stop process using OEM parts in majority, almost all parts on the car are original and most of them are eligible to be restored, we dismantle the complete car , The chassis was in good condition it used to have a custom made metal hard top, but according to our research was originally soft so we get the complete set to return it to soft top, we opened both differentials and were in good condition so we changed the parts most worn, all emblems were restored or bought OEM.

Rust Free

The car was wet blasting in all the parts to bare metal removing any rust, we covered with two different products for a rust-free protection, the cabin floor was damaged so we rebuild it completely, and is ready to receive the color paint you always want.

Parts

First, we try to restore the item if possible and relation price benefits are convenient, then we use OEM/NOS parts if it's available, if not, we try to look for the most look alike in the market, you can understand some parts are hard to find for a 47 years old car.

Tires and Rims

To some people, tyres and rims are the half of the customization process, so we will put original gray rims and commercial tires at no cost, but if you want we can give you a selection of aluminum rims, and tires to an additional cost to the price.

Shipping

This car is located in Colombia the country, so we will send it to any part of the continental US for free, there are legal paperwork to do in both countries whenever finished, times can not be guaranteed.

A 1970 toyota FJ40, full frame-off restoration ready to roll.

nice work but more then I could spend plus having to worry about importing and shipping within the USA. Also that vehicle does not have some items a vehicle made originally for USA would have.

@Carlos Ortegon

Big balls to come in new at IH8mud, trying to sell a FJ40 1971 on that same day and dare to set your price 1/2 on the FJ Company, suggesting that the quality of your rebuild could be compared to theirs.

But Welcome !

Ed, don`t worry shipping is for free and title transfer will be done for you, difference on this particular 70's model from us market to the rest of the world it's only three small things: the heater, red turn lights from the back and rollover bar, of course, those can be replaced or added, some earlier models are very different because the AC and the dash.

these pics are from a post on Hemmings

Carlos,
If you're going to build a car for the USA market build it so the buyer doesn't need to hire a shop as soon as he gets it to install a rollbar and heater. Last thing I'm doing is paying $34K and still needing work done.
You'll do better selling a ready to go car. Your work does look good.

TCed, you already sound well informed. I spent about 3 years reading this thread until I found the right vehicle for me. You will probably have to travel or ship to get an unmolested original. If your patient the best used trucks at a fair price show up on in this used section. Those trucks that I have found worthy of looking at and considering purchasing are listed by Mudders that have a reputation and the trucks often have history of their own in the FJ40 forum. I purchased my truck of this forum, it came from Nova Scotia.

Also, expect to be retired to TC myself by next year, already bought a place in the Boardman valley. Based on your avatar I assume you are a bird hunter. We have Brit's and when free from field trials like to hit the grouse woods.

Also, post up your intro and what your looking for in the 40 section. A little more information would be helpful. How much your looking to spend and what is most important to you. I would also be happy to share any information. You are also welcome to inspect my truck which I should have up this summer.

We're on a hill on the east side of the valley south of Potter/Hoch Rd.

That's close, we are on river midway between Garfield and Keystone. You will get a lot of response if you post the vehicles you may be interested in. I also was shying away from modified vehicles but ended up with a '74 that has a newer 3B diesel and restored/partially documented on Mud. There are some nice trucks that come up out west, good luck.

I'd prefer a hardtop and rot free, I know the difference between rot and surface rust. I would possibly consider a gas engine conversion if it's completely done and no B.S. rigging, no mediocre conversions. Upgraded suspension and disc brakes are preferred but not a huge suspension lift, moderate is fine. Paint color and condition are not a deal maker or breaker. If I were to go with the original power train and engine I'd like a four speed.
Also not hardcore on originality, odd doors or rear panels and upside down grilles don't bother me, doors that don't close or catch do. Aftermarket tops, panels, wheels are acceptable. Guess the issue is original vs. aftermarket and price. I have a do not exceed.

I agree on possibly buying from a forum member. I'm involved in high performance boating and find most good sales occur between forum members, seems to help sort out those that misrepresent things for sale.

I will let you know if find something interesting, always looking, have something of a car buying habit. I agree on the networking aspect, I ended up purchasing my 40 from a Mudder who turned out to be a fellow P-car racer/instructor who knew me from that forum, small world.

Nice FJ40. The ONLY way I could buy a Colombian cruiser again is if it is stateside already and I can view it before purchase. Buying a cruiser unseen before importation is not for the faint of heart. I speak from experience.
