Hi all,

New to the FJs and have a 2F engine giving me these illustrated "carb" issues in videos below. Please! Any advice woule be great.

It happens for thr first minute or so at start up and then goes away with either warm up or time. Bowl is carbonized and gray/black. Truck is bogged down and slowto accelerate.

Very grateful for any insights...

I hear a lot of valve clatter. I do set mine on the loose end of specs as I would rather hear them than burn them.
Check you plugs and timing while you are at it. How is the fuel pressure and level in the window. Before you do carb adjustments it needs to be warmed up. Is the accelerator pump working correctly - there should be a shot of raw gas shoot down the bore when you step on the pedal.

Thanks Charlie. My next move was in fact to check timing. There is a shot of raw gas. There is fuel in the window. All of this goes away after about 2 minutes of warming up. This is odd to me. The truck does seem bogged down when I accelerate even when the symptoms in the video go away. I will follow up and thanks again.

Be sure to check timing. Is the accelerator pump working? Does it squirt gas when you give it gas. Don't look straight down the carb when it's running. It might synge your eyebrows. It seems lean.

Pb4ugo thanks. Yes it squirts well. Checked that. I'll do timing but don't have a timing gun and may do it old school. Small increments and test. There is carbon in the bowl. Maybe be timing. Not sure.

Carbon in the bowl? Do you mean in the throat of the carb? The black in the throat looks like it's been back firing thru the carb. That's an indication of a lean condition. Timing, vacuum leak, lack of fuel, valve train.
