so hopefully everyone has checked out MTN rats new (and very cool) lift springs straight from OZ. i thought we could leave that post to reviews of how he likes it and the pros and cons. but knowing what we know now.....better handling....bigger ( can run 37s) and all the lift is in the springs so no spacers.....what is your interest level. how does this change the future plans for your rigs......I personally I am STOKED. i have cut corners some... and went with MR G spacers (confession: mine are actually used with christos 1.5 inch spacers :0 ) i didnt get new panhards or control arms (although i did castor kit) and i havel loved the J springs but have wanted something bigger. I also find it harder to cut corners with these new springs so now all my pennies will go to slee gear, springs, and tires...........i get all hot just thinking about it. :p.....so lets have it. .......by the way i have no affiliation with slee or any thing in OZ just want to see if whatcha think!

It hasn't changed my view one bit.

Lifting with shims to compensate for additional weight might work as a temp solution but more weight requires increasing the spring rate.

More than 3" is to high IMO because it requires too many alterations in suspension components and subtracts too much stability from raising the center of gravity.

So I'm still here looking at a custom one off spring setup. Something with the length of an OME 850 but a rate to carry a bar + winch + sliders with a 3" increase of lift when installed.

Sorry for droning on again on this but I'm looking at a expedition setup verses a rock crawler.

I'm interested. I'm thinking since I can't get my 91 wheels to fit the 94 that maybe I should just leave my 91 as is and sell it with the Js next summer? Less work than swapping it over. Definitely more expensive, but still reasonable when compared to 60 series lifts. My intent is to swap to 17" wheels at the same time with like 3.5" backspacing so I have a lot of expense coming. It might take awhile to save the pennies.

The lift is cool, but you can't go around waiting for the next greatest thing. Get some skin in the game or you'll miss the whole game sitting on the sidelines with all the pantyless chearleaders. In my book, folks should build their trucks up slowly learning how they work on the trails. Build to fast and you break stuff, lose lots of $ and may lose interest. Slow = good. :flipoff2:

I personally like to sit on the sideline with the pantyless chearleaders...oh yeah, THEN I go wheeling!

NW sickboy, I have been waiting for somone to mention Mr G spacers. Heres a pic of mine after 3months on the front above J springs.

i dont think this is waitingfor the "next best thing" i think it is an "upgrade". I also dont think the mr G spacers are the shadiest thing around. slee sells something sililar for the rear for the J springs. I am stoked that thier is another option. and if you already have slee gear from your J springs ( panhards and contrl arms F/R) i dont think you would have to do much to run these. anyone that has seen my rig knows i got some skin in the game ...can you say body damage.

I do not think the Mr. G spacers are shady either, but I am now sure they cannot take the abuse that they were not designed for. Imagine that ;). As for rock crawling vs expedition, I still would not call my 80 a rockcrawler. A little more capable, yes, but a real rockcrawler, no. Check out Christos shortbus for that. I see my rig as something like the Volkl G4, a great allrounder that still has the jack to work ok in the bumps. Its not a P40 and its not an Explosive, but it fills both roles competently, but not as well as the specialist item.

Damn you Sean!
Now you've got me thinking of ways to try to justify getting those new springs... :flipoff2:

Now that I got that out of the way...I'm going to be real busy with mods if I'm going to have any chance of keeping up with you on the next trail run (whether it be Moab or the 'con again). I think I'll be better off just bringing some extra grape juice :D

Sweet rig mon!

I think I'll just sit back and wait for all your "old" parts to become available and snatch them up :D They suit my needs just fine. And the price will be right :p

So just to let you guys know... I'm behind you all the way. Bigger IS better :D Go BIG or go home... Build build build!!!!!!!

Let me know when those Aussie springs become available in the US. I'll be watching the For Sale forum closely
