hello not to start a debate but what is the actual difference between the lx and the tlc besides some luxury interior items? Our 99 lx 470 is up for some big scheduled updates plus new tires all around so we are considering a new one. I know some time back the tlc was very different from the lx but now both have the hyd suspension and all the bells and whistles available. I respect all the people on the forum here nad knowledge of the trucks; what I am specifically looking for 1) hardware stuff such as torsion bars, etc 2) i think the 4wd systems are exact 3)????
any comments or suggestions would be great ; from just doing basic price comp toyota seems a bit more willing to negotiate with the price and its about 11k difference between the 2 and that little emblem is not worth that much to us. now as for the lexus service which some of you may bring up; that stuff means little to us (a cappuchino machine a free car wash and a loaner car is about it) shotz and christo; some comments would be great or if anyone has any research i would appreciate it a lot.

Better interior, sound, and other such non-essentials. Only LX has the hydraulic suspension, LC still does not. Lexus Night View (whoop-dee-doo). 4 year 50K mile warranty on the LX vs. 3 year 36K on the LC.

When we bought our LC, we also looked seriously at the LX and GX. In the end, decided that the LC was so nice that hydraulic suspension was not worth the price, for us. The different settings did not perform as expected, and I felt the hydro system was one more expensive system to wear out (or conversely never get used), that was not easy to simply rip out and replace with a standard aftermarket suspension.

But most importantly, it wasn't a "Land Cruiser." ;)

'05 LC Cygnus (same as the LX in the US) has projector headlamps (they kind of look like HID's in the mag shots, but the Toyota Japan website says they're projector's.

thanks for the info i know the lx may be more ""luxury" but that stuff is not that special; the new lc are really nice i thought the one i seen did have the hyd system i will check now. thanks again but hey underneath all is the same as far as anyone knows?

yep this lc did not have the hyd suspension it was the power 2nd switch button for the trans. htanks again

If you are in the US of A, you can't get hydro on a Land Cruiser, only on the LX.

With the exception of the hydro-shobs, everytjing else is the same. Transmission, torsion bars, suspension, engine, etc.
Very hard for me to find the extra $11K !!

Actually, the torsion bars and rear coil springs are softer on the LX than the LC because of the hydro assist.

Being able to choose the height of the vehicle is awesome, IMHO, especially if you ever have to negotiate parking garages. The Levinson sound system in the LX is far superior to the one in the LC, and you can get some cool high tech options you cant get from plain ol Toyota (i.e. the night vision thing).

But realisticly, the only mechanical difference is the hydro.

Also, if you are buying brand new, Lexus dealerships treat you like a king when you take your vehicle in for work, give you nice loaner cars, etc.

You're resale value will be a bit higher too.

paint, levinson, warranty, suspension, memory seats/mirrors/steer column all worth some of the difference.

not having to buy a $55K vehicle at the toyota dealership.... priceless. it was so miserable, we ate the price difference and bought the lexus.

$0.02

As some have already mentioned, there is a HUGE difference in the way a person is treated at a Lexus dealership as compared to a Toyota dealership.

I'd purchase a Lexus over a Toyota any day, if for no other reason this difference.

If you do not have another vehicle, the loaner car is great to have. Some Lexus dealerships get finicky about loaning them for non-warranty stuff...if this is the case with your dealership, have them check something covered by the warranty when you have it in for servicing.

...did I mention there's a HUGE difference in customer service? If not...let me stress that there is a HUGE difference ;)

Ha, I'm LMAO! :D

Wow, it's wild to read that! :D

I remember that when we bought our 100 (we didn't even know what we were buying then) we didn't even go look at the Lexus, and for only one reason. Seriously. One reason.....it didn't say "Land Cruiser". :)

I look back and realize that's pretty silly, but I wanted a LAND CRUISER. :D

hey hey i did not want to start a debate about the 2 i currently own a lexus and honestly think the customer service thing is a joke i dont need some one to yes sir me and all that crap and hey if you look at some of the other sites like club lexus and lexus owners club many people are having problems with lexus dealerships so other people also agree its not all rosey. I was really after some info on how the basic trucks are different. memory seats are not much help when your tires are spinning=:)

OK. Got ya. So what will you use this SUV for? DDriver? Mild off-road? Moderate off-road? Difficult off-road? Let us know and we can direct.

this would be used for a daily driver plus we do lots of beach stuff florida and nc (really need the 4 low) also want to take a trip to moab and some other places. I will add this the luxury stuff is nice but now you can get a cushyyy lc

play nice now=:) ok the lc we seen has everything but no folding mirrors (this maybe a luxury item but i actually use it on my lx fairly often) now with regards to the hyd susp so at max level the lx has more ground clearance then the lc? and even better apr and dep angles? that cant be true? i would think they would be the same or you would have seen the hyd susp offered in the lc

They loved me at the Lexi stealership :D

some of the high brow customers gave me odd looks...;)

Yep, you can get the hydraulic shocks on overseas LCs w/o having to buy the LX (plus you can get the rear diff lock). You can also get those wood dash kits in Japan for around $500 for the LC, plus the gold LX470 emblem set ...a lot less than $11K (more like $700). AND, you'll have that "L" on the hood!
