I very recently upgraded my old worn out factory upholstery. I went with a two-tone color design, with the accent color matching the upper door panels and upper dash. And I also took the opportunity to replace the factory seat heaters with their Degreez heating AND cooling system (for the 2 front seats). They were also able to install the new switches in the factory location which I was very happy about. I also took the opportunity to replace the original worn out driver's seat cushion with a brand new OEM Lexus bottom cushion. Only the driver's seat got the new foam cushion as none of the others were that worn (and they are about $300 a pop
). But all of the seats got the new leather.
I originally opted to only do the first 2 rows, because even though I have 3rd row seats, I'm a 30 year old single guy with no kids yet, and so those seats are never used and are just sitting in my shed at home. However Katzkin mistakenly made and sent material for the 3rd row seats anyway. Also one of the new leather pieces that was originally installed had a very minor defect, so Katzkin warrantied that piece out at no charge. So once that new warranty piece arrived at the shop, I brought my 3rd row seats down and had those done at the same time.
For those considering this option...how the process works is that you go on Katzkin's website and you go through a design section where you put in your vehicle info and create an approximate design of what you want. Also something to note... if you want to add the heating and cooling system...just know you will have to use perforated leather for that section. I made the whole section with the accent color perforated. After that was submitted, a sales rep from Katzkin reviewed the design and contacted me and we discussed what I wanted in greater detail. I went with the "two-tone insert" design. From there, I texted over some pictures of my interior and the colors I was trying to match, and they sent me some color swatches in the mail to pinpoint the two colors. And the two colors I went with were Ivory (main) and Driftwood (accent). (Which turned out to be an excellent color match btw). After the colors were selected... we officially submitted the order, I paid for everything through Katzkin, and my interior kit started to be built, and they set me up with an appointment at a local shop who is a Katzkin certified installer. Then I dropped the vehicle off at the shop (who is paid by Katzkin, so you normally don't pay them, although I paid them the labor for the 3rd row seats since that wasn't part of our original Katzkin transaction). Typically you'll have to drop the vehicle off for about 2 days, mine ended up being 2 and a half. And that was it. Pretty easy overall.
It wasn't cheap, it ended up being about a $4k project. But that was for multiple rows all two-toned, also including the arm rests, center console, and with the optional heating+cooling system, plus I had to source the OEM foam cushion, so there are options to cut and ways to get the cost down a bit. But if you can afford it, and you are planning to keep the vehicle long term like I am...it is worth it!
The leather looks and feels incredible. The heating and cooling system is nice, there is a high/medium/low setting for each. The heating system is atleast as hot if not hotter than the original factory system, even on low they are quite warm. The cooling system isn't anything groundbreaking, and there's really no point in running them on low or medium, but they do make a noticeable difference (depending on how hot of a day it is and what kind of clothes you are wearing) and they are a nice addition. Plus they heat and cool the seat back and bottom cushion, not just the bottom cushion like the factory heaters.
All in all, I am very happy with the results!
