Hi everyone!

Looking into purchasing my first LC and would like some advice. Found one around me with some questionable rust on the undercarriage and wasn't sure if it should be something I should be concerned with. Hopefully one of you guys can help me out.

Thanks in advance!!

The steering rack boot is torn pretty bad on the passenger side, also if you zoom into the driver side between the skid looks like oil or something might be leaking and gunking up some dirt. CV boot on the driver's side is torn too. Either that or rust I can't really tell. That's all I can tell, rust doesn't look like anything really, would be more concerned about what I mentioned.

Thank you for your insight!

Expect a steering rack replacement, some work on the e-brake mechanism, and some buggered holes holding on the two underbelly brush guards.

Chiming in to say that's a pretty clean undercarriage. Hows the maintenance records? Year? Mileage?

The rust doesn’t look that bad. That being why is some of it very clean and some is rusted. Has it been sprayed over?

That rust doesn't look like anything. Steering rack looks like it's leaking and at the very least you need new rack boots and some AT 205 (which actually worked for me) worst a new rack.

Lower ball joint boot is torn on passenger side and driver cv boot. I'd reboot the CV (not too hard to do) and replace ball joints . Tie rod boot looks worn too. Negotiate with that in mind. If you did ball joints and inner outer tie rods your looking at like $300 in parts .

Does it have seats? A roof? Hoping the steering wheel is still there..

I usually jump into these "Is this too much rust?" threads with a resounding "YES!" (the guys will probably me up on that. But on this one... nope. That looks good. You just broke my rusty thread streak.
(and welcome to 'Mud!)

Perfectly fine and I’m a rust fanatic. Get it oil sprayed, you’ll never notice it. However.... I bet you will spend few thousand in cv axles, u joints, and misc. get the vin and go to Toyota website... you can get a lot of records that way
