Afternoon all,

I have a much beloved ‘84 Troopy in excellent shape thanks to a P.O.’s restoration and my careful maintenance and upgrades over the last decade. Even so, the headliner (more accurately the headliner foam backing and adhesive) recently died and within the space of a week, the entire thing was basically sagging to the ground.

I’ve removed it and purchased a new one but before I go about hacking my way through the installation of the new headliner, wondering if anyone has (a) done this specific project before and (b) has tips. FWIW, the roof is fiberglass and my obvious first step is to carefully clean/remove any/all existing foam/adhesive so I have a good blank canvas to begin.

Thanks in advance for any pearls of FJ45 Troopy Headliner wisdom you might have!

Tip: Install a roof rack with cross-bars to protect and support the top, unbolt the fiberglass top, flip it over, and set it on a garage floor, and let gravity be your friend during the installation.

Thanks Steve. It does, in fact, have a rectangular rack that would let it easily sit on the floor upside down. I'm a little nervous about unbolting the whole thing and then putting it back on but I should probably bit the bullet and do it that way (and order a spare gasket while I'm at it). Thanks!
