got a question for all the guys that have already been through this

new head with cam and all ready to bolt on, gaskets , new oil pump, water pump, timing chain with cover and guides (steel) gaskets and a new rad with new hoses .. $545

and labor $250-375 ( given for hg and timing chain replacement)

does any of that seem right or close to about what it will cost to rebuild the topend (truck never had work done to it) and as i posted earlier the hg or the timing cover got ate.

I don't like the steel guides. What kind of gaskets? Are they having the head checked out? Like magna fluxed checking the deck or anything? Where are you getting the oil pump....only go with Toyota....trust me

Oh edit...I see your getting a new head....that sounds to cheap. I hope its not a Chinese replacement?

the head and gaskets are coming from enginesus.com and the timing chain kit is coming from mizumoauto.com right now im thinking about just getting it back on the road and then buying another engine or another truck

watch that i bought a head was cheap like that and had nothing but problems. just look at my sig. and believe me when i say saving a few bucks aint worth it. my rig has been on and off the road now for about a year because of that head. like a few months of driving it then wiped the cam. new cam wiped within a month, and spun rod bearings because the metal from the cams. pulled it down put everything on rebuilt short block, exhaust valve in #1 cylinder broke fxxxed up the piston. and that fix has my truck sitting in the drive way. so research with you buy. and i am with crazy thats way to cheap. good luck

yeah i might go with autozone or advance but then again im still gonna need a cover, oil and water pump and a new rad i hope my head is still in good shape i'd rather buy a fully assembled one and be done but im having doubts with alotta these places selling them so cheap

Go here and don't look back.
I have used several of this companies products on these little 22R/RE motors with no complaints.
Steel backed timing rails are security!

For the parts you have listed definitely go with www.engnbldr.com they offer great parts and service. I have one of there street rv head's and love it. The only part of theirs I don't like are there rings. They are chromoly, and I had a set fail due to many things that were not there fault at all, but if I a set of old school cast iron rings it wouldn't have happened. Also for a head gasket go factory toyota. They are pricey at about $60, but worth the money.

i just decided to go to advance and buy the fel pro gasket set ( buy it all and save what i dont use) 90$
a new water pump $38, new head bolts $45 and from japan engines their timing set kit combo (cover and oil pump) for $87.95 under 300 for parts and the labor will run about 350 i just gotta wait to see if my head is still in good shape which im sure it is cause the truck was never abused or raced (grand pa owned it) never even used the 4wd hardly not till i got bought it :) then it went every where i pointed it

First off, take that water pump back to Advance. Do not use any other pump (water or oil) other than a Toyota.

You do not want to have to pay for another tear down to replace the water pump-which has happened so many times to so many people that do not buy Toyota water pumps. They are around 80.00 but well worth it.

Second off, I would not buy a timing chain kit from anyone other than a reputable company i.e. well spoken for by this club. There are a couple so you have choices.

Again, do not buy a non Toyota water pump.

Go with either of these and spend the $$$. Do it once and right. I recently had an overheat incident that may have warped or cracked the head. If I need a new head I'll get one of Engine Builder's Street RV heads. BTW, Engine Builder has timing kits.

im getting a timing kit from engine builder , got the felpro gasket kit from advance, head bolts, valve cover bolts/studs, water pump is a new asc wp784, im still prob gonna buy a new rad as the old one is still from the late 88's , new hoses, new vac tubes,... guy i met at autozone had a bad ass single cab taco and just rebuild his 22re using the same setup about 9 months ago and hasn't had any issues. i hate not being able to drive and being disabled sick of sitting around i plan on buying a new motor just as soon as i stack up about 3800

i hve totally lost track of your questions. you asked the same one and stated the same things in a lot of threads.

its good that you searched, but all you did was confuse me. not that i know much about toyotas anyway, but not even i dont know where to help you

your better off deletin your 15 posts and startin over.

no kidding i confused my self, i found alot of the cheaper deals i mentioned earlier but i started to become wary after comparing parts the gaskets and all looked like notebook paper, the covers and pumps i found looked as if they were cheap china or tiwan knockoff's ... so i called ted at engine builder and he told me about his 900 front end kit, cover, chain kit, water and oil pump.. sorry about the confusion wristpin how do i delete my other posts?

$900.00?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

no it's called the 900 front end kit (Ted-Ask for our 900 full front end kit) it's 170 total with shipping included

OK man, that makes sense then.

i bought my TC kit from Ted but used a Toyota water pump and gaskets.

i can not answer that but i will tell you that guy at advanced lied to you i do not think there is a stock taco with a 22re in it. you need to listen to these guys and also if your not going to do the work you need to just buy a complete engine and have it put in. to me if you are buying all these parts you should be installing them. there should be no labor charges.

i kinda figured he was i do more reading and research then most ppl do, yeah i'd do it my self only problem is i just had brain surgery to remove part of the tumor on the left side of my head, and i can't exactly get out in the heat and **** around with my truck like i used to before i got the milkshake and was due for surgery of course my mind isn't exactly as fast a it used to be either
