I'm busy building a 22re. I've done the timing chain at least 8 times before, but it never occurred to me that clearance between the chain and the guides could be changed. Just to get the bolts in makes the guides tight to the chain, but there is room to move both guides slightly away from the chain. FSM does not mention this. I am using the steel backed OSK guides, if that makes any difference. The only time I have ever broken a chain was with the steel guides, so I am trying to be careful. Could slightly tip them in or out depending on direction of chain travel as well. Any thoughts on best practice?
