Did you wear the pink long underwear Ian? :flipoff2:

I bet you miss your manly 80 series! You could have been bashing the drifts at Seddon's instead of cruising the plowed park.

LOL! I do miss my 80, I can't wait to get the new one and hand this rig back over to the :princess:, but it gets me around for now.

I heard a lot of people bitching about too much snow at the mega-run, how did you find it? Did you get your body damage fixed?

Definitely too much snow out there. Couldn't really get into the pits.

I'm waiting until spring to go to the body shop. I may get the whole truck painted if I can do the prep work myself.

Last night I installed a 4300k HID kit from Xenondepot, plug and play, took about an hour, makes the truck feel years newer when they fire up! Much more useable light than stock, pretty pleased with the results, and the price was very decent, even with the Philips bulb upgrade.

Ian - any lift on your GX in the 3/3/14 pic on the snow? I'm thinking no - and MAN those FJs with a +1 look soooo much better than stock! My wife has the same silver (07) and I badly need to de-soccer-mom that thing...

Also, we're a couple of years into those Duratracs - how'd they do?

I had kind of forgotten I started this thread, lol.

The pic you've referenced was with bone stock suspension, just the FJC wheels and +1 size tires. I put 90K kms on those Duratracs and still had 11-12/32 tread remaining, and was able to sell them for a decent buck. I replaced them with another set of Duratracs in stock size, as the +1 really doesn't make sense for the way we use this vehicle.

I'm a big fan of the Duratracs, as we deal with winter conditions 4-5 months of the year and they do great, and unlike dedicated winter tires I don't need a 2nd set of tires for the rest of the year. If I lived in CA I'd probably look at some of the other AT's available, as you aren't going to be taking advantage of the excellent snow/ice manners of the Duratracs unless you are heading to ski spots or that kind of thing, but for me they're perfect.

Since that pic I've converted the rear suspension to FJC coils using the SSO kit with no spacers, changed the wheels to FJC 8-holes w/ stock sized tires, and deleted the roof rack. Here's a current pic, although a terrible one, lol. It's sloppy roads season and you can't keep a vehicle clean from the carwash home, it's not even worth trying.

Washed the truck and snapped a better pic last night, I'm really liking the look with the roof rack deleted.

Hit a deer on the highway last night, I was able to scrub off about half my speed before impact, he'd have run into the side of me if I'd failed to slow down. 1st time I've ever hit a deer, I expected it to feel like I'd hit something bigger, it pretty well bounced off the front corner and the truck felt unaffected other than the driver's side headlight aiming too low, but a closer inspection shows the old GX took a heavy hit and simply insulated me from it.

Looks like a front bumper, grille, hood, headlight, fender, fender flare, side mirror and whatever I may have missed. Hoping it's not a total loss as this was to be my winter vehicle this year. Terrible timing honestly.

Glad, no people were hurt! I hit a deer last december but fortunately I had a reinforced off-road bumper and it only bent my hood and shattered the headlight, not fender damage. Still cost $2500 dollars to fix, replaced hood and passenger headlight. I went ahead and replaced both headlight since they were both getting foggy anyway.

Well, I finally have an update. After a long fight, insurance has agreed to repair the truck with no conditions! It snuck under the wire by a hair, but I'm really happy with this outcome!

So...I guess I'm doing a semi-build as it needs new shocks now anyways! I'm hoping to complete the following before it goes in to have the bodywork completed:
-new OEM LCA's and adjusters, mine has seized bolts so that should be fun
-new OEM driver's side UCA, replaced just prior to the accident, should go smoothly
-new springs and shocks all around, I'm likely going to go with the Dobinsons stuff, I don't want a lot of lift as I don't wheel this truck and it needs to fit in parkades still. Dobinsons have 1" and 2" spring options that I'll be looking at more closely in the next short while, and I understand you can get their shocks in black rather than yellow.

With that stuff out of the way, it can go in for an alignment and make sure everything is good to go before the bodywork gets underway. I'm aiming for spring to send it to the shop, that way I can continue driving it for the winter on good tires, tow my snowmobile trailer with it, etc.

Some extras I'll be getting done at the same time:
-new OEM sport headlights
-get the other mirror cap painted at the same time as it has some rock chips and scrapes
-grille painted matte black with a black pearl Lexus emblem
-rear bumper repainted as it is the wrong shade of silver (it's been like this the entire time we've owned it)
-rear chrome strip painted matte black
-I'm going to look into deleting the factory foglights and replacing with some LED's, maybe a 2x3 pod on each side or something like that

And I may look into an aftermarket skidplate as mine are old and crusty, I've got some seized bolts to drill and tap anyway, and it'll look great with some fresh ones under there. I'm going to pull down the tow bar and repaint it as well, as it's seen better days too.

Had the FJC wheels refinished, I think they turned out great!

Got the 1st wave of parts for the rebuild! OEM LCA's and cam bolts, driver's side UCA and bolt, front swaybar bushings, and some sport trim headlights!

Dobinsons springs and shocks should ship next week. Aiming for an install in March.

So I got the suspension installed a while back, and it rides like a dream! Firm, but never harsh is the best way to describe it.

Then I got the bodywork done, and picked the truck back up last night, very happy with the work! The whole front end save for the passenger fender and flare is fresh, along with the mirror caps and rear bumper, which accounts for 90% of the exterior flaws!

A few loose ends to deal with, like foglights (not sure what I'm doing there just yet), getting my other 2 centercaps refinished, clean up the hitch, etc, but I'm really happy with where it's at.

It rained on the way home from the bodyshop, so please excuse the watermarks.

Looks very clean. Really like the silver with the black FJC wheels.

If possible, please list the details of your Dobinson suspension (like part numbers) and the hub to fender measurements. Im always curious to see what lift you get with specific suspension upgrades.

What I ordered was a 1.5F/1R lift with twin tube shocks (in black, comfort valved rear), the part #'s to accomplish this are C59-300(1. 5” MD), GS59-221B, GS59-705B, C59-599. Kyle Fogle @ Treaty Offroad was great to work with to get the lift I wanted figured out.

I gained 1.5F/1R as advertised, but I was going from a rear coil conversion with FJC rear coils, which sat a bit taller than the air suspension used to on "N" setting.

It rides great, firm but never harsh, super happy with the suspension.

Thanks for sharing. You went with an all Dobinson shocks and springs all around. Nice.

The rear height of 1” include the gain from the sso kit which adds 3/4” of an inch due to its thicker spring locator base?

And are you sitting level now or still have a rake?

That is with the SSO coil conversion kit, and not using any of the 1/4" spacers. There is a rake with the rear sitting a bit higher, I don't ever have my 3rd row seats in this truck.
