Hey Guys,

So I just sold my FJZ80...sniff, sniff. I put of a lot of time and money into her but all good things must come to an end:( The good news is I will be picking up an one owner 05 GX with 86k miles. I know the engine and drivetrain should be pretty much bulletproof but wanted to know if there are any other know issues I should look for. Dealer wants to sell me the extended warranty for 5 years and 80k miles. I am more worried with electrical issues than mechanical. What are specific things I should be concerned about? Super excited begin modifying this rig!

Based on my experience, as long as there is a good routine maintenance history, you probably won't need to worry about anything. Skip the extended warranty and save yourself some $. It's just all dealer profit anyways. I leased my 2005 new and ended up buying it. It now has 104k on it. I have kept the maintenance current including the timing belt at 100k.

I wouldn't worry about an extended warranty, especially if you're going to mod it.

Thanks guys. I really didn't want to spend the extra money anyway. The dealer thought I was crazy for declining it:) My 80 I could fix anything and I didn't think much about it. The GX has a lot more electrical items and electrical is not cup of tea. The car only has 86k so I'll have to buck up for the timing belt and service anyway.

The GX is even more simple than an 80. It was made to be fixed...except the exhaust manifolds and the starter :P

The only thing I could *possibly* see a need for an extended warranty on an 05 would be for the secondary air system. Factory repairs are outrageous, but it can either be completely bypassed and tricked, or GM parts can be used to keep it functional for a fraction of the cost.
And like Dan said, they're ridiculously easy to work on. Yes, manifolds crack, but I've never come across an extended service contract that covered exhaust components anyways. Save the money for the timing belt and other maintenance items.
