Nice to meet everyone. I'm in rock hill looking for an 80 or 100 series rig to add as a DD. Currently drive a JKUR but nobody's perfect!

I'm looking at a low mileage GX 470 as a base for outfitting with suspenders/bumpers/wheels/tires. Nothing too hardcore as this will be a DD. Can anyone recommend a top land cruiser shop in the area?

Welcome! I figured I could guess what a JKUR was, but had to check to confirm.

OK I'll bite, What ever is a JKUR?

My guess is Jeep JK Unlimited Rubicon.

And the GX is a capable platform. Dan has built the wee out of his. His build thread is somewhere around here. ACC in ATL has done most of his work. Only caution I will give is that there is little to no aftermarket support for the GX. I think Dan's suspension is custom, his front ironman is modified from another platform, his rear is custom... etc, so if you go that route and want to build an expo rig, just be ready to have a lot less jingle in your pockets.

Edit: Dan's build thread is in the 120 section titled "My 2003 GX470", sorry don't know how to link it on the mobile app

What year? I know you said low miles but in Toyotas less than 150K is often considered low mileage. If you go 1997 or older you can get whatever you want for it without building custom. I'm pretty sure all the 80 parts transfer over. As far as I know the GX is just an 80 with a fancy trim package.

If he is asking about a "GX" then I am not sure that will be true.
This is how I understand the breakdown in models:

LX 450 = fancy 80 series (only available 96 or 97)
LX 470 = fancy 100 series
GX 470 = super fancy 120 series with different supension and body than the prado, FJ or 4Runner. (Not sure when this model was introduced so some older stuff may cross-over)

Scott you may be thinking of the trim levels in other markets. Vx , gx. Etc

The gx is more similar to the four runner with the 120 platform and a nice middle ground between a 4 runner and A 100 series. Agree with above. It's a nice platform but aftermarket is slim compared to other cruisers which is again slim to the jeep market. Not to steer you from a great build potential.

I would peek at dans thread above and a some other build in the 120 section. Also some good builds on expo. There's a great looking gx here in town (gso) and his build is on expo. Ill see if I can't find it.

The question might be what do you want to do with whatever rig you get. And what is your budget. That might narrow down your search.

Then again we all have a little bias here and there toward particular models.

Daily driving -20 ish mile commute daily. My wife will be driving it some. Hauling the dog and family members around on Sundays. Pulling my conqueror conquest trailer (3kish lbs)

13,500. 121k miles. Sorry no link

Welcome. I have no advice on what to get as I would like to have one of each. What I can say is that the thought of " oh I'll just do this, this and that and be done" is completely out of the window once you get started. It really is a sickness and it is fun.

Comfort wise you cant go wrong with a 100 series. However almost anything will fit into the description you posted.
You did not mention wheeling at all?

I havent owned a 100 but did own an 80 and can say that unless you need a SFA because of how hard you wheel I would go with a 100 if you want a LC. GX is another ballgame, if you like the looks of them go for it, if not but want something similar go for the 4runner.

Does this belong to anyone local? I think the price is a typo :-)

Price should be a typo but doubtful. He probably thinks the rims add $5K to the price even though they only cost $650.

What is your budget range? you should be able to find a 100 for under or close to $10K if you are patient.
