Attention "Pipe Haters", this bumper is comprised of 1 3/4" .120 wall DOM tubing. Now that the disclaimer is done: I found an excellent source here in Tulsa for DOM at 60 cents a foot, WOW!
I've been researching all sorts of bumper designs and came across one (on this site) on an FJ80 that I liked, (I didn't include a pic because it looks real similar to mine). I thought about doing somthing out of plate, but I lack the equipment to really make a go of it. I like the simplicity of this design and I'm positive it will be efficient at protecting the front of the rig.
If anybody "would have done it this/that way", then go ahead and do it.

Cheers, KR

I like it, very clean, original. Fits your truck well. Did you do all the bending yourself? If so what did you use? What did you use for the 2 center upright bits?

Nice design. Plus, you can add to it whenever you want. I don't know if you plan on adding to it, but if you do, check out some of the early bronco vendor websites. A lot of their tubular bumpers could give you some ideas for your rig.

Looks good to me. At $.60 a foot, I'd build with tube too.

Bending

The bends on the top tube are pretty slight, so I was able to use a $50 bow/ arrow bender. The bends on the bottom tubes were done at a muffler shop. With the right size dye, the muffler shop does a pretty decent job. I have a friend with a sweet bender, but he lives out in the sticks and it's kinda tough to get our schedules together.
The middle pieces are 2x2x1/4"

Great Job!

That really looks nice and clean. Light, economical, What's not to like? Tell us more about how you fabbed it.

The top tube is craddled in a notched section of the 2x2 and the bottom tubes are notched at the outer ends. the rest was just working the cut angles. The 2x2 has a piece of angle iron welded to the back that bolts to the back two holes where the oem bumper mount rivets were. I cut the front two inches off of the frame to get the bumper closer in to the body. I think I will do a rear bumper similar to this construction.

Nice! Now put some armor-plate in the openings and you got yerself a mad-lookin' bumper.

what's the name of the tubing distributer. I 'll bet he doesn't have an unlimitted supply at that price. i'd buy everything he has tomorrow if your information is right

I actually thought about making a few more but I don't know what kind of demand there would be, or how much $$$$$$$ would be a fair price. Chime in with suggestions.

How could that be modified to accomodate a winch?

Looks decent and light. Not enough protection fro me, but to each his own.

Did you cut the frame or something? It looks awefully close to the body.

Sorry, I should have consulted with you prior to building it.:frown:

Relax. That wasn't a knock. It looks like nice work, it's a good design for a lot of places - But in the land of big fat deer, really dark nights and 6 ft snowbanks, that bumper's a little lightweight. Doesn't mean it's not a great fit for your machine, your use, yourself. However, some people (such as I) think an ARB is too lightweight.
