Hi - read your post on MUD. I'm at a glass shop now and they are saying they can't use the chrome locking strips as the plastic underneath has come away. Are you gamilfam with this? What should I do?

Thanks! Panic over....he managed to get the chrome and plastic tray back in but took some persuasion! Just need to get it fitted back on and hope nothing pops out.

Economy Glass, in the 1st post is now out business, for anyone in the L.A. area.

Dammit! I was going to hit them up in the next couple of weeks. Are there any alternatives in our area?

Not that I've gone to. I've gone to Dirk for 40 years. Don't know why it closed.

You might call K&H and ask who they use - maybe they can recommend a shop that will be familiar with 60-series.

If they do, post it!

.

dudes been installing windshields for 40 years. I'd retire too.

Dirk was the Son - his Father opened and ran the shop before him, they've actually been in business since '57, at that location... I don't think it was retirement, but have no way of knowing and no one to ask --

I noticed on yelp quite a few very negative posts in the last couple of years, with different people named as installers, so it's possible he sold the business and the new mgmt killed it.

Too bad, those mom 'n pop one-man-shops are disappearing fast as tortillas at a taco stand. Does Amazon install Auto Glass ;)

:meh:

All Star Glass in Gardena did this btw.... really reluctantly however! As he said to me, he makes up to $2k in an hour from insurance payouts on modern cars as they need to use all sorts or state of the art camera equipment to make sure it meets manufacturer standards etc. My "little" job took him 3 hours, was a PITA and he only charged $271!

He made me drive to the shop rather than home visit to save costs on his end which was totally fair enough. I also helped him get all the chrome bits back in! Felt pretty bad for the guy!

Anyone knows of shops in Norcal knowledgeable in doing this windshield replacement? Mine has multiple cracks and want it replaced asap.

FYI I saw there were windshields listed on rockauto (4 count). Also I have pulled many good windshields out of old Saabs...even cracked ones....and been able to save the original gasket in the process. I have not tried on the cruiser yet but FJ's have much simpler glass and if the gasket is the same style I think I can work it out without damage.

Does any one have the full scans of the FSM for this install? I had some body work done and the window got popped out and put back in. Now its leaking like a stuck pig on both lower corners when it rains. HELP!!!! Down in Mississippi so taking it to Dirk is out....
