Well, new to me. I just took delivery of my first Toyota ever. The guy drove it 1100 miles to meet me. Nice truck. I just drove it the rest of the way home. There are a few odds and ends that need attention, but otherwise it is just as described. The exterior is as clean as any I have found. The interior is somewhat worn, but not terrible. I suppose it is easier and cheaper for me to work on the interior rather than a new paint job. Itis totally rust free. I have been all over the thing and it is clean as a whistle. The engine was rebuilt and sounds good. I have never had a Cruiser before but I hear a very slight knocking sound coming from the tranny at idle. It goes away when you push in the clutch. I suspect this is normal as my Unimog does the same thing. I suppose it is just the mass turning in the trans with no load on it. Any thoughts? It works fine and drives fine with no leaks anywhere which is nice for a change. The air is ice cold too.

Congrats!
Hey, listen, if you can't get rid of the Pinz, let me know. I'll take it off your hands for you. :D

As far as your noise, can you describe it better? And are you sure it's coming from
the trans itself?

I've got the same sound. It's one of the bearings in the front of the tranny. Input or throw-out bearing ? Somebody help here. Shouldn't be a problem unless it gets dramatically worst. Fix it the next time the tranny is out. Dat's my plan.

Congrats on the new Toy !

Cheers,
Cahil

noise in tranny

Well, it is a soft knocking noise. It only does it at around 600 rpm. When the air is on it kicks the idle up a bit and you would never hear it. I don't think it is a bearing noise. I think it is just the mass of gears rruning in the tranny with no load on them. I am not going to worry about it. regards, bryan

I don't seem to be smart enought to post pics. Anyone post them for me if I send them to their email? I have been waiting on this FJ60 for awhile. I thought the guy was going to back out as I had not heard from him. Anyway, I think it might be slower than the Pinz around town. Oh well, I like it anyway. What is the interval for valve adjustment? The engine has 13K on it and I suspect I should at least check the clearances. Regards, bryan

If it's ticking, check the valves.
Well, it'll always tick, but you'll get a feel for when it's time. Might just want to check 'em
right now, and go from there. That's what I did.

As far as being slower than the Pinz, is it a 710 or 712? M or K? A 60 probably weighs twice as much as a 710M. So the Pinz might take off a little faster. But I wouldn't dare drive a
710M (or K) faster than 70 on the freeway. I've had my 60 up to 80 on flat ground.

It's not ticking. Yeah a Pinz at 70 is loud. But, around town the Pinz might be a little faster. The pinz weighs 4400. Another question. My a/c fan does not change speed when switching from external source to internal (recirculate) What to do? thanks, bryan

fan will not change when swtiching from fresh to recuculate, if on AC the air will get colder(if your windows are up) So it sounds normal to me. when you change the fan speed does the fan change?

a/c

The air does get cooler when on recirculate. MOST cars that I have had increase the fan speed on recirculate...Not the case here eh? That being said my last few cars haven't even had roofs or power steering let alone a/c...thanks, bryan

I had this problem, it sounded like there was an acorn kicking around in the bell housing. I took off the inspection cover and one of the clips on the throw out bearing was undone so it was rattling around.
