As i mentioned in my AC post i called the PO....best in the world IMO.....And asked questions that i didn't think about when i picked it up.

He said that there is a little bit of lift to it unbeknownst(SP) to me.

He said the front shackles are actually stock rear toyota shackles.

The rear shackles are extended, 2 inches or 2.5 inches he couldn't remember without getting his records out that he is going to give me if i ever make it back up his way.

He also has extenders on the front shocks.

He also mentioned that he couldn't remember if he added any leaf's to the packs since it had been so long. I went out and counted and there are 5 springs in the front pack and 7 springs in the rear pack......are these numbers normal??

Also the tranny is out of a Aug '80 60 series, Good or Bad?

just thought i would share info as i get it.

5 and 7 are the right amount for springs, but I question the rear to front shackle thing. I just replaced the stock shackles on my 87 FJ60, and I didnt notice any kind of measurable difference in length between the two. If you have 2" over rear shackles and stocks on the front, your ass end must point to the sky. Or maybe your springs are completely flat and it sits level. Hell I dont know. Never mind.

Interesting. I still talk to the PO of my 60 now and then. They like to see pics of its new life, since it was their family car for almost 20 years.

When did you buy this 60?

I got it back a few months ago.....it was free....the PO just needed it out of his garage and couldn't find a buyer.

I promised him pictures of it here in a week or two. Also told him if I am ever in the area i would drop by and give him a ride in it.

5/7 sounds stock to me. If there is an AAL it will be obvious, as it is thicker than the others and has no taper at either end.

On the front the bottom Leaf looks newer than the other leafs and As far as i can remember doesn't taper. It also has a Made-in-somewhere(can't remember off the top of my head) sticker still on it....Maybe i missed a spring when counting.

The rear i don't remember what the bottom leaf looks like just counted and didn't inspect.

Hodag....my springs are almost flat.....they aren't riding on the bump stops yet but they aren't curved much either. Maybe if someone would post a picture of a good set of stock springs and how they are curved maybe i could compare, Anyone?

About the rear to front shackle convo he did. Which way is the shackle supposed to point at rest, Front or back, when stock. Maybe he did a shackle reversal??

Holy moly.....that is awesome!

I tried to remember changing out my stock shackles. Now that I think about it, the backs are mayber 1/2" longer. If so, it would only give you a 1/4" difference in height.

If it has a shackle reversal, the solid mounting point would be at the front bumper, and the shackle will be at the back of the front spring.

Pictures may help to clarify many of your questions.

oh yeah....i took a look at the rear and front bump stop situation..

in the rear the is a good 4-6 inches i think between the bump stop and the axl. Didn't measure just eyed it without getting under the truck.

In the fron the is a good 3-5 inches.

Is this good or do i need springs??
