Can CV axles change length a bit? Maybe while pushing and pulling to remove it? I laid the new one and old one next to each other and the new one appears shorter. Is that OK or is it the wrong part?

OEM part or aftermarket? Should be part no. 43430-60040 if OEM.

Aftermarket. I grabbed the old one and was able to easily squish it shorter, to the length of the new one, so I guess it can change length a bit.
Yes, the length is variable so it can self adjust while flexing and turning. But what is concerning to me is the boot appears to not be seated properly in the grooves in the shaft on the center outboard section. On OEM shafts the boot has matching ribs that pop into the grooves in the shaft to help seal better and keep the boots in place.

It seems to have multiple grooves, I can see 2.5 exposed. Not sure if that means anything.
It's almost consensus here on MUD to use OEM for the CVs. There have been many reports of problems with aftermarket. Even rebooting with new grease on the original OEM seems to be better than full replacement with aftermarket, assuming there is no damage to the original OEM. Run some searches on here to check that out for yourself?

Well it was either this or park it for months until I could afford OEM, but I gotta drive to work and do life and stuff.
