I've had this hundy for about a month now and I cannot STAND the cup holders. I don't know how you guys deal with it! :)

Anyway, I found a 3D model of some new cupholders online (here), and I can 3D print things for free at my local library so I figured I'd give it a shot. It took something like 26 hours to print. I used black ABS plastic.

The cup holders turned out ok - not great, but they are definitely functional (and much more so than the stock ones). You can see the 3D print lines, so the surfaces aren't smooth, and if you sand them, you expose the "honeycomb" interior. My guess is that this can be adjusted on the 3D printer, but I'm no expert. I printed mine without "supports" and regret that. The supports would have allowed for better horizontal lines.

If you're going for a utilitarian hundy, not a luxury one, and hate your cupholders, this might be a solution for you. Here's some pictures for your reference.

I hate mine. Would you consider selling these? If so, I'm game.

I would probably consider selling them, but since I don't own a 3D printer, it'd be hard for me. I only get 30 hours of 3D print time at the library a month, which is about 1 of these cupholders.

Definitely reach out to your local library and see if they have a similar set up. I've heard most library districts have the ability to 3D print now.

OK, I didn't know this was a thing available to folks. I've been wanting to learn how to use one of these anyway. Can you share the location of the file you used?

Great, thanks. I didn't think to use "100 series" as the search string!

Do y'alls cup holders not have the little ratchet pawl things that hold your drink?
I do, but it is worthless.

My printer is saying about 30 hours on medium quality, 42 on high quality. I will have to find some down time to stuff this thing on the printer and hope the power doesn't go out!

I should add I would charge over $150 to make this part for someone. Ouch!

Out of curiosity, is that because of the amount of time it takes or the supplies? I am just getting into 3D printing so know pretty much nothing about the costs.

Both. It is almost 600 grams of plastic, even at 20% infill. Plus the time. I charge 5 cents per minute, and at 1830 mins... it adds up quick.

I think this could be redesigned to use ALOT less plastic. It has been on my list for some time, but is not a priority. I can barely keep up producing trailer brake controller brackets and coin trays!

I think @bhicks can help you guys out getting them printed.

A few wraps of black 1/4" thick foam tape around the inner perimeter of each cup hold work equally well for spill avoidance...and cost almost nothing.

I never considered my cupholders a problem. They hold my iced teas, waters, and Red Bulls fine. Maybe some years were worse?
