This is the "Trailer Tech" section, not the "Off-Road Trailer Tech" section :flipoff2:

I can appreciate the need for a heavy frame but you would be surprised what they can handle. I think the rest of the trailer helps "tie" it all together too and I doubt there is much flex left in the frame. Now the addition of the electric brake axle is a must in my opinion. What's your estimate on loaded weight of the trailer?

I agree...although stopping right now isn't an issue...for the sake of everyone around me I don't want it to be. I just set up in the bottom yard with no weight in the cooler..and I was pushing 240# of tongue weight with the battery box and water jugs filled. I have to rearrange the stuff inside, but I think I'm at about 1500# which is a bit much for a 1/4 ton trailer.

I'm at about 30 hours Mr. Phulcrum drawing this damn thing..I've never used it before so there was a bit of a learning curve...but I got a bit better as I went, but far from profecient.

Well Fred..I send the damn file if you stop by and weld up the frame frame for me..;) But certainly anyone who wants a copy I'd be glad to send it to them

Here's a few more with the tent and awnings...kinda an "as built""

Thanks Dr., I was waiting for you to throw in. If you see any flaws in the design or think of anything I'm missing let me know.

I'm moving the axle forward about 20" from it's current location, although I'll probably rely on the contents to make weight adjustments. The goal will be to have zero tongue weight and move stuff to the front to end up with at least 150#-200# . 300 lbs. is the max for the parade wagon reciever.

The drop jacks should allow for leveling it much more easily. I'm looking for wheels that will be rated to handle the load, but is it safe to assume that a standard 15"-16" truck rim would work?

I think a 15" or 16" truck tire should be fine. The good thing you have going for you is that you have an idea what you will be carrying so you can plan for that. I would have a little tongue weight when empty in case you ever pull it for something else.

wow. very nice design. cant wait to see the real one.

Thanks Mr. P...

Well...one build comes to an end and another begins....

A gentleman from Quebec bought the first build....best of luck Supraturbo!!

AH! all that work and you had to watch it go!? was it always the intent to sell it?

It was really hard to watch it drive away....but the gentleman who bought it has two children and was looking foward to taking them out...so it was all worth it!

As far as building to sell..it never really entered my mind until after a few trips I realized I wouldn't be happy with the current setup, and needed a few modifications, which of course would lead to more weight. The frame was not suited to add much more, as it was already maxed out.

As I look back to the beginning of this thread, many of the things I still wanted were in the original design, as in the water tank and batteries in the floor. So when thoughts of the ROAM started, it really was a natural progression of the things I wanted vs. the things I had.

Thanks Mr. P:beer:
