New BFG KM3. Thoughts?

I'll wait a couple of years, I guess...unless I switch to 37s next year.

They're not available to general public until then anyway. They only made enough for folks to test. The plant severely underestimated the demand for KO2's and have had to run production so long that it affected everything else. But hey, atleast them Red Label Krawlers are in the oven again!

Tires are in stage 2 of 4 in the development process...

I'm really jealous.

Just like teaser shots for upcoming cars where the photo only shows the headlight, or taillight, or some other small detail.

The opportunity to be involved in the development process is a huge honor...there are only 9 enthusiasts/media on that list.

I will share everything I can :-)

what's wrong with the km2 that needs changing?

Simply, technology changes...BFG has made major improvements in their KR series race tire and in the KO series all terrain, particularly in the sidewalls. The KM series will benefit from these improvements as well. Any manufacturer continually analyzes their product and plans improvements, and most have a certain life cycle before they are redesigned...tires, cars, etc.

They must have made very few KM2s in the past couple of years. I hardly see any here in Colorado. After my first set of MTRs, I wanted to try something diff so got the Nitto Trail Grappler MTs. They did not work out for me...too heavy, a bit too stiff, and they had a radial pull. They were also had a bit of an annoying howl or whine at 50 mph+. So I made the shop take them back and put new MTRs on...all is good with the world now. My next set will likely be 37s and since the KO2s and KM3 (quite sure of this, based on the KO2 and KM2) run small, that may work out well. I would like to see a tougher sidewall and a relatively quiet tread. If not, I'll look at the Ko2s or stick with the MTRs.

As my MTR's aged on my 80-series, the tire noise became ridiculous. The KO2's I have on there now are still very quiet.

I'm likewise curious to how quiet the KM3 is over the long term...I had BFG MT's back in the early 90's and liked them, but my old FJ40 with a SBC and no top hardly cared if the tires were noisy or not :)

Yeah, all MTs will, and the MTRs are no exception. After 18,000 miles, mine became louder so I simply sold them. They are amazing off road but since I avoid mud states and we rarely have mud here, the KO2s would do well too....plus be quiet for a long time. I'll see what options are available when these hit 15,000 miles. That will probably be two years.

Can anyone comment on the fitment of the AT 15X33X10.5 KO2 on stock FJ40 steelies? I have heard the M/T's fit very well but may be noisier than what I want

I'm sure someone will...when the tires get released later in 2017 :)

I meant AT K02, not MT

The MT's do fit really well on stock steelies. Tire noise is pretty relative on a 40 - there is a lot wind and mechanical noise already.

Im all for the new bfg, not because its super fabulous but because since the km2 just got discontinued i got 2 40x14.5x17s for less than the price of one. Slashed one on the sixty last saturday and was relieved to actually find two then pumped when they were right cheap. Only bad thing is theyre the last 2 in Canada so i better make the 7 i now have last.

I sprung for new MTRs in 35 again I actually bought Nitto Trail Grapplers (MTs) and they sucked so I managed to switch them out for MTRs by paying the difference. Well, I got a break on the Nittos but not the MTRs so it cost me. Anyway, back to the MTR for a while. The new ones are obviously much quieter than my worn ones and quieter/lighter than the Nittos. I'm good till 2018 or even 2019. Will be good to see how the KM3s stack up. Any more news on them?
