Hello... I had taken my 99 LC for an oil change at one of those express Pennzoil joints. The guys did a battery test and advised me to replace the battery right away; he showed me a print out and the battery was on the "replace/change" part of the test. My LC has 76000 miles; bought it used at 53000 miles. Indicator light on the battery is still blue, and the engine turns over right away. Needless to say, I didn't buy a new battery. Was the guy trying to pull a fast one or are those battery test legit? Thanks for any input. You guys are good...

I would take the battery to a reputable shop or dealer (if you have a good one) to be tested. The battery testing machines have always been accurate for me but I'm suspitious that a Quick-Oil place even has a battery tester. Especially if they tested it without you asking for it to be tested. My 1998 at 68k has the original battery (recently tested) and it is still going strong so they can go a long time with no problems.

If the battery tests good somewhere else I would file a better business bureau complaint and maybe even call the State Attorney Generals office.

I would pull the battery and carry it into a Pep Boys or the like.

They have the nice expensive load testing machines, takes an hour, but you will know for sure its condition, and it will be completely charged. You can look at the readout on the machine itself if you want.

I've found that these guys don't have a particular interest in selling you a battery, they don't give a fawk, so they tell you straight up.

My first advice would be this:

Do not go to an oil express shop for your oil changes UNLESS you have bought your own Toyota filter and supply them with that. As well, do not go to them for anything else like fluid changes or radiator flushes.

The Toyota dealer actually charges less for oil changes than most places in town. Now, they are going to try and upsell, but you can handle that.

As well, if you ever think your battery is dying, and as others have stated, have it tested for free.
