New 60 carpet for sale! DECEMBER 14, 2024 UPDATE

Removed the jute for the front section and got better fitment. The thick luxury liner on the floors is pushing the trans hump out of alignment. Not perfect, but the noise reduction is worth it and I am the only one who will notice.

Fresh carpet makes such a difference. The 60 looks amazing. Thanks for a great product @dnp. For the price its a 10/10.

Hey Mark, I just sent the following response to you in a PM, but I thought I would post it here in case anyone else might have the same question (NOTE: I'm not aware that the mfr. still includes these in the new sets or not. They're supposed to have stopped long ago, as this part doesn't apply to carpet installation in either an FJ60 or FJ62.)

Regarding the black disc, for some reason they put those in many of the very early sets. Unfortunately, I suppose some of the workers assumed most vehicles of that age still had floor dimmer switches, as that's what it is: a grommet that goes in the carpet to finish out where a floor dimmer switch would go. Not knowing you, I don't know if you're old enough to remember those or not, but they were generally gone before the introduction of the FJ60 - and I'm not sure if Japanese cars even ever had them (my '72 240Z didn't have one, and I don't recall my '70 FJ55 having one. Maybe some older FJ40s did, but I don't even remember any of those having them.....but I never owned a Land Cruiser before 1970).

In any event, either hang onto it as a novelty item or toss it. It isn't necessary for your FJ60 carpet installation.

Merry Christmas to all!
David

Very nice, MickTLC! Motivates me to get mine installed as soon as I can.

The set just arrived today and is laying on my living room floor "relaxing" to prepare for installation, while I read and reread the installation instructions.

Did you install any additional sound deadening materials? What did you use? What difference do you find in the cabin noise?

In your photos, I can just catch a glimpse of your console between the front seats. Your cruiser is two years older than mine. If that's the original, I'm dazzled. If it's a replacement, can you tell me where you got it?

Thank you DNP - My brown carpet just arrived today. As soon as my windshield leak is fixed - the carpet is going in. I also have a general question on sound deadening - my local upholstery guy was not that keen on it saying that I will never get the cruiser to be as quiet as a new car. His thoughts are just to put some deadener in the door panels and leave the stock Toyota deadening in place on the floor - anyone have any experience? I certainly don't love the idea of all that asphalt off gassing in the rig.

i put dynamat in mine and i feel it made a world of difference. there is apparently better out there but more $. i personally recommend it!

Deadener first, then MLV for noise.

Thank you both for your suggestions. I will research more on the subject. If dynamat covering the floor makes a difference I will look into that. MLV looks spendy but will search more on that as well

I installed 1/2 box of Kilmat in the cargo area over the original molded deadener. Put some foam behind the side panels. I did not put any in the passenger or drivers sections because the original molded deadener was still good.

With the additional floor mats I got, it sounded quieter than what I had.

My console is original but just pained with Cordovan brown spray paint. I also painted the kick panels, map pockets on the doors and the door trim pieces.

If any of you guys didnt install your grey wheel well carpeted covers and arent using them... and would like to sell them to me, or at least the driver side one... I would love to buy it, i slipped my razor blade and ruined my driver side one. I reinstalled my vinyl ones for now but like the look of the carpeted ones much better.

Another positive review of the DNP carpet kit. If you are on the fence, this is the one you want. I layered in Second Skin damplifier pro, Luxury liner pro, and also kept all of the jute under my carpet. It was a little hard to fit it all, and i messed up my wheel well covers but overall it turned out great.
