How much should I expect to spend to have a new alternator installed on my 99 LC? A local shop wants $435. Has anyone else had to have this done? My 99 has only 64,000 miles!

Have it rebuilt and reinstalled. Should be much cheaper. I had a alternator rebuilt on a 91 for 90 bucks. They took it off, rebuilt it and put it back on.

Look under Alternators and Starters in the yellow pages and call around.

The part OEM alternator lists for $311, you could probably get it for less than $240.

Anybody have any opinion on Mean-Green alternators and starters? They're supposed to be HD and designed with 4-wheelers in mind.
