Not to hi-jack a thread but I'm in the same predicament I need someone to do a birf replacement. PO stripped the splines on the PS birf and welded it to the hub flange as a fix.

PM me, I'll take a look at it.

Dude! someone welded the flange to the birf?! First off, how did someone even strip the splines? that's dang near impossible since the studs would most likely break before you strip the splines.... please post pics of that beautiful art!

tear into that bad boy yourself, don't pay anyone, it seems hard but really is very easy. Just make sure you have a car to drive if you end up being down for a day or so while you wait on parts!

Update hub/birf let go last Friday, took it to Marty's will give an update after it gets back.

So this is a 92? If your birf stripped/let go/etc... wouldn't that render you stopped in your tracks with no viscous coupler? Unless you lock you CDL.

You REALLY need to learn how to tear into these front axles. It's easy and pretty much required knowledge if you plan to wheel this thing... otherwise you must be filthy rich if you intend to take to a mechanic everytime something needs done to that front axle.

Locked the CDL and going to start working on it after this fix. The mechanic was already in the hole for the seals so I decided to let him do the whole fix. After this it will be HAM's because 2 cases of beer and several slabs of ribs is a lot cheaper.

If this falls on a Saturday.... you cain't stop me from eatin' a rib!

I'm about to over-haul my brakes on the new junk... it's guzzling brake fluid at a resevoir full per week and i have no idea why so it's getting a baseline... new rotors, 100 series pads, inspect calipers, new rear drum shoes, new rear wheel cylinders. If that don't fix it then I'ma get new front soft lines and MC rebuild kit for round 2...

All told about 600.00 parts and labor for Birf & seal replacement. I will update later if any problems arise.

Wow, that's cheap. What kind of birf did you use? Did you do all seals on that side(I am assuming just the one side for that price especially considering that includes the birf)?

I bought Slee's birf and it was all the seals. I'll try to keep everyone updated on Slee's birf.

the chromo or the steel one? ther are still two types correct?

I guess the steel one. It's the light duty one. I use mine mainly for DD with an occasional romp in the woods.

Next time, I'll charge you $200 labor! But if you're with me doing it, then it's free! All's I want is some ribs...
Just throwing that out there...

Hopefully there won't be next time anytime soon but ribs I can do no problem. 3 Butts, 3 slabs, and rib tips in my avatar.
