This is the setup I was landing on, looks to be the non-chromoly version.

No, it is Chromoly, the Longfield kit is made by RCV for Trail Gear with life time guarantee too

Manufactured in the U.S. using only high-strength chromoly materials, RCV Performance Ultimate 30/30 spline CV Axle set simply replaces your 80 Series Land Cruiser’s weak axle shafts with a high-strength design. Tests prove Ultimate CV Axles to be twice as strong as OEM shafts, and they’re just as tough at a straight angle as they are at extreme angles. Even if you have big tires and big power there are no worries. Ultimate CV Axles are low maintenance and operate with a smoothness you can feel – whether off road or on the street. And we back it all with a “No Questions Asked” limited lifetime warranty.

Axle set includes right and left inner axle shafts & 2 pregreased CV joints.

I’ll definitely be doing the work myself. After reading a lot of these entries, I’m looking at Nitro’s more stock version. I don’t think the Chromoly version is for me since our 80 is a daily driver, and sometimes long voyages. The only reason I would get inner Axels also, is that this is our one vehicle at the moment, and I need to get everything possible in case I open it up and there is an unforeseen problem that needs to be replaced. I live in a small mountain town and parts are hard to come by. Thanks for all the info, this is definitely the place to get it.
You definitely don’t want or need the RCV shafts for an AWD daily driver.

I agree with your desire to replace the inner shafts too because the oil seal wears a groove on the shaft where it has ridden for those 261k miles possibly causing an oil leak to develop.

I will echo all the other suggestions to call cruiser outfitters on this issue and many others that may arise in the future.

I would look at them before I was going to throw parts at it, I put 280K on my Birf's and I DD it with a Cummins diesel and drive like a a maniac, the inner axles can be used if you just set you seal in 2mm deeper than stock ( using @NLXTACY small tool it's real life sized 🤣 ), or a sleeve saver , the first time is going to take you a full day and a box of paper towels . I get my stuff hot tanked to get them clean

Not yet, I’ve had the truck for two years, and it was a search and rescue vehicle before I got it, so I’m sure there’s a lot to do in the knuckles, which is why I think it could be good to do the whole job. They definitely look dry from the outside.
Do it yourself a yotube called otramm has done a how to video on it all, I never even owned a yota 3 years ago and Idid brfileds, axles and everything else. you can/should too.

I'm going to throw this out there. Having your 80 as the only rig in your family is tempting fate. Sure, they are reliable. But sometime you have to wait for parts, and sometimes you find more wrong than you initially thought or things take longer to put back together than you planned. Plus you said that you run trails with your only rig? You're a braver man than me. I won't even use mine as a daily driver.

I like to live....dangerously 🤪 but in all seriousness, I also have a 40 that has been a daily driver as well. It’s just getting some electrical work done. That’s about the only thing I don’t do well, and I’ll gladly pay someone that does it well to do it. Plus I have a 2012 Triumph Moto that is a great backup.

It's very rare that we replace an inner axle, in just about every case, simply over driving the seal solves the issue. This tool makes that easy to do. Wits' End- 80 Series Inner Seal Overdrive Tool
What a fantastic tool, I’ll be getting one for sure, as there is a good amount of grease coming from the passenger side knuckle, most likely being a leaking inner seal.
