I 'm in the process of buying a 70's model FJ40 and having it completly restored. I need some suggestion on how to get started and who to uses to get it restored. Any books, magazines or info that would help me get started would be greatly appreciated.

keep on reading

this site is a plethora of info search this site try different search engines to find parts.

The old saying from Mad Max "speed is just a question of money how fast do you want to go", well it's pretty much the same.
Goos Luvk and welcome to the site. I've met some good people here who have helped me tremendiously.

Welcome!

So you're talkin full on restoration huh.
What condition is the rig that you are starting with in?
I take it that you don't intend on doing most of the work yourself?
Where do you live?

Most "restoration" places I'm familiar with cost a $hit ton of money and are usually way overpriced for what you get. Don't have first person experience with purchasing any, but I can just say that it get's expensive.

How much you planning on spending? I mean $20,000-$30,000 seems to be the norm for a full on restored truck (truck price included).

TLC restorations in Calif
Cool Cruisers Of Texas
Rock Mountain Cruisers

Just to name a few.

Like mentioned earlier, google etc for Land Cruiser Restoration will net you many others as well. In your search on MUD you'll likely find some places to avoid as well. ;) I'll not mention any names because I don't have any experience with them. :)

Welcome aboard.
