Scott he posted is on the first page i think. I talked to my boss and i can get off around 3. If you and George head up earlier then maybe a 2nd group can head up this afternoon. Weather for whistler looks wet and snowy so we need to make sure every one has a couple pairs of dry cloths, rain gear and a sleeping bag with food for a couple days. Im all loaded and ready to roll out once I get done work.
 
Can George do this by himself? Should we head up?
Anyone want to go, if so call me, I am almost ready,

I do not think anyone should be heading up there by them selves, the weather is right at that point where the snow is going to be really wet with fresh wet snow on top. Did you get a hold of George? I'm loaded and ready to go just cant get out of work any earlier than 3.
 
Ok just got a txt from Brian (westcoast4x4) and George has already picked him up they got a couple hundred feet of extra winch like and shovels. They are solo right now so we need to get a 2nd group mustered.

The directions are In-shuck (sp) FSR 70km down to Harrison west and they will be about 2.5hours down Harrison west FSR.

I can get out of here (Langley) at 3ish maybe a bit earlier. I'm all loaded so can head straight away. Scott did you want to meet up with me in North Van? I'll let WrenchMonkey sleep a bit more before I call him to see if he can make it.
 
Ok talked to Scott, he thinks George can get him out as do I but I still think we should head up to assist in case he cant or in case something unknown happens. Scott had suggested waiting till we hear from them but they are out of cell range I did tell westcoaster to txt me as soon as they get cell coverage if/when they get out.

I still think its a good idea for us to head up since its such a long trek and if I get a message along the way then great if not then we are not still at home waiting to hear from them further delaying ourselves.

Anyone see a flaw in that logic?
 
If you guys need another truck, without a winch and not really built, I can go.
 
got a call from gary, he has lots of equipment to offer, but his truck is out of action, no winch working, so if we need traps , chains etc he has some to offer.

hopefully we will here from george soon.

The only thing I do not have is Chains and a winch extenders so I have about 90ft of usable length. Not sure I really need chains and could not fit them in my wheels wells if I did. An extender line would be ideal if a long pull is needed but I do not know, sounds like George has lots of line now.
 
Ok Brad (WrenchMonkey), Scott (darmaduke) and myself are headed up this afternoon. We are meeting at the PetroCan in Pemberton to get fuel and head out. I am leaving Langley at 3 so should be there by 6:30-7.

Brad and I are on VHF 146.460mhz

We are all ready to spend the night if needed and have foods for a few days as well as dry cloths and sleeping bags. I would hope to be out buy tomorrow AM so I make it work and not lose my job.

We plan to leave PetroCan as soon as the 3 of us are there so if you are thinking of coming along let us know.

If conditions are really that bad, then I would be careful about going all out on a rescue. You may end up with a bunch of stuck 4x4s instead of just one. I have a friend in Pemberton who does a lot of work in the bush and is on very good terms with the First nations there. They use to live down at the Douglas First Nations reserve and teach there. I just sent them an email to see if he can recommend someone with a tucker or snow cat who can pull you out to the plowed road.
 
From the picture it might be advisable to have at rig stationed behind the stuck rig for a straight pull, maybe 100' behind, block all 4 wheels of the recovery rig and winch out in 90' chunks. Ensure the stuck rig is aired down to the max and keep in the ruts as much as possible.
If you have to tug - use the stretchy nylon strap that stores momentum, since traction is a minimum. Fir boughs may provide some support and traction in tricky spots.
Don't work too tired or cold. Take your time and good luck.
 
I am not so sure that airing down the tires on the vehicle being being pulled is a good idea. Yes, you get better floatation. But you also are lowering the vehicle and dragging more snow.

I'd think it would be important for the rescue and recovery vehicles to pack down the snow on the road as much as possible before doing anything else.

If winching is required, I'd also recommend that the winching vehicle be anchored to a large tree from behind. You'll find blocks will either just slide or dig into the snow and the winch vehicle will not stay stationary.

I done my share of recoveries in the snow either by shoveling and making a travel bed with branches and small trees (self recovery) or by snatching (pulling out others). Never owned a winch before so never used a winch. :meh: Snatch straps work great if it is long enough for you to get moving. But don't allow the tow vehicle to start digging into the snow. With small foot print tires, snow is like sand (and in some case mud). All you want is enough throttle and torque to get moving and keep your momentum. Go overboard and you will be stuck again.

the few times I've been stuck truly sucked. Digging my wagon out isn't fun. When you go big, play big, you get stuck big!

Ya, I'd hate to have to dig out your rig stuck to the frame rails. From the pic it is hard to tell how badly stuck he is. It doesn't look very stuck. I see no evidence of shoveling which makes me think he forgot a shovel. I don't even venture out on the winter highways without a shovel let alone an unknown FSR. I usually also have a Swede saw and an Axe. (I need to replace my worn out chain saw)
 
Ok he is out, just got the message that him and George are on there way out. Brad, Scott and I got as far as Pemberton. We are headed back now, glad he got out safe. Cheers for all the advice and volunteers.
