I'm trying to get some guys from Upstate Cruisers down into GA to help a guy out.

Check out my main thread in the UC forum.
https://forum.ih8mud.com/sc-upstate-c...lled-iraq.html

I've been talking with James (screen name JamesR on MUD) for quite awhile now. He is trying to fix up a 40 but there is a little more to it than that.

James' son, Josh, was killed in Iraq on Sept 22, 2007 by an IED. James has decided that he wants to fix up Josh's 40 for Josh's son Jackson. Jackson was born only one day before Josh was killed.

James has a blog at Josh and Jackson's FJ-40 but it hasn't been updated in awhile. There are a few pics of the 40 there also. Also look at
https://forum.ih8mud.com/40-55-series...hello-all.html
for info on the 40.

James has done a good bit of work on the 40 in the past two years and has learned a good bit along the way. Check out
https://forum.ih8mud.com/40-55-series...cksons-fj.html
https://forum.ih8mud.com/40-55-series...t-rebuild.html
for some info on what has been done to the 40.

Currently the 40 blows smoke and James thinks its blue. Compression warm and dry is OK - all at 120 or above but one as high as 150 so there is a decent gap between high and low. Carb isn't working correctly either. James has a whole battery of other tests to run that I've suggested. I've got lots of more info too...

I would REALLY like to get a group of UC'rs to head down to see JamesR for a day. I would be willing and probably will make a weekend out of it. He lives outside of Athens GA. James was thinking he was going to have to have the whole motor rebuilt but I think we can save him from that.

James was pretty much good for any weekend in Nov and Dec but with the holidays and my wife's business that might need to get pushed into January, I dunno. I'll donate any parts that I have that we need for the 40. James will supply sodas and pizza while we are there.

What does everyone think?

I would really, really like to roll down to Athens with a strong contingent so we can show our support. It would mean a lot to me and I know it would to James too.

I would check with the Ga Cruisers on this too. There was a big push to help on this a year or so back and it did not go any where as far as I could tell. The last I heard; a small team from the GA Cruisers was going to check out the truck with the family to determine what needed to be done and what was desired. After that; I did not see any more posts (and not being a member of the Ga chapter, I did not hear any meeting reports).

Thanks Larry. I posted some info in the GA Cruisers section.

James is decently mechanically inclined but needs some guidance on these old F motors. He probably needs a few parts but I'm not an expert and I'm also dealing with him through PMs and the phone.

I'm thinking right now a carb rebuild and a good hand tuning. Maybe (hopefully not) a head rebuild. He looked into a complete motor rebuild but I have him holding off on that for the time being as I really don't think it is necessary.

Thanks!

Looks like we have over $200 in donations already! Lots of others have offered any parts they have, we have T-s***s being designed which should be done soon, and people starting to mark their calendars so they can help.

What I could use is a handful of people to help organize...

Thanks to everyone again.

FYI I be there Sat & Sun (don't have Monday off), so I have made a reservation at the Spring Hill Suites (between Athens & Watkinsville). The hotel is offering $64/night rate to help support this effort, so it was an easy choice.

Most of you will be attending the TOHVA meeting; but on the off chance anyone is making the trip, this was some info that I thought you would be interested in.

Anyone else going?

Anyone else going?

Andy,
Per your posts here and at Upstate, it is just you and me. My oldest two girls go to school nearby in Athens, so I going early Saturday to drop off some things with them and then heading over to the build directly. See you there.

Just wanted to thank Andy and Larry for coming out and helping. We couldn't have gotten it done without your hard work.

Again, Thank you.

Did you guys see this? Already made the papers...top rated story at Athens Banner-Herald online.

Marshall / Rick,
Thanks. It was an honor to help.

However, the big credit goes to Andy. He was there working when I arrived Saturday and still at that night when I was spent. Plus when I left Sunday night, Andy was still working through the electrical wiring and he had a much longer drive to make home than I did.
