HI guys,

I'm contemplating driving back from Honduras in a couple months with one of these type Land Cruiser II's (these are just a couple examples of what is available down here)...Auto Toyota Land Cruiser 1991 Carros Usados Honduras - Compra y Venta de Carros Usados, financiamento y Seguro de autos usados, pickups, camionetas, camioines, buses, motos y lanchas & Auto Toyota Land Cruiser 1991 Carros Usados Honduras - Compra y Venta de Carros Usados, financiamento y Seguro de autos usados, pickups, camionetas, camioines, buses, motos y lanchas

Now, what I'm wondering is, how easy do you think it would be to sell one of these trucks once I get into Canada? They are LHD. I think by the time I get up there and import the vehicle, we're looking at around the $10,000 range. Do you guys think someone would be willing to pay that kind of money for one of these trucks? Obviously, I know, the truck would have to be in excellent shape. I don't plan on bringing back a pile of junk.

What would be even better is if I could strike a deal with someone before we left here and took like a $1000 deposit on one. Then delivered it to Canada.

Feel free to let me know any and all of your thoughts about something like this. I love the drive from Honduras to Canada, so this would be a way for my wife and I to do it again and cover our costs of traveling.

Thanks in advance.
Beau

The 2L engine family in Canada is not sought after, especially the 2lte (do a search). There's a few of these in the for sale adds (lj71/78) for about the price you are thinking of asking, I havn't been paying attention but I don't think there flying off the shelf. I'd be looking for a HD model bj/hzj, it'll cost more but is a safer bet on the drive and the resale. I'd think whatever route you go it's just a good excuse to do great roadtrip, and if you can afford to hold onto it for a while until it sells your golden. The LHD would set the rig apart from the rest of the pack.

The black 70 has a 3b in it, and its labeled as running on gas. If you brought up one of those I would be interested. Even more so if you brought up an HDJ. I am not saying that I wish to enter an agreement with you, just saying that I would be interested.

Isn't the 2.8 engine, in the brown one, a 3L engine? That's what I had in my Hilux.
Knorrena - I've never seen a LC II run on gas. I have a feeling that's a type-o or something. But you would prefer the gas over the diesel?
As for HDJ - I too agree, a much better vehicle to do the trip. A little more risk though at the same time. Risk factor being they are more expensive than a LC II, so if I didn't have a buyer before I even left this country, I probably wouldn't do it.
That being said, if there is anyone seriously interested in a LHD HDJ, let's talk. There's tonnes of them here and I could find a pretty nice one and I'd much prefer drive one of those back to Canada.

I was merely pointing out the fact that the seller posted that it ran on gas in the description, but the engine shot shows a 3b (from what I recall a 3b to look like anyway). Also, the front grill looked more like a landcruiser not a lcII.

X2 Looks like a BJ70 to me. It has a diesel badge on the grill

my opinion?
make sure you have researched it well.

Dealers allways seem to have no idea of what they are selling
When i was hunting for a fzj79 heaps of the add id ring up and they would say yea fzj 79 yep its got a diesel motor ...even one dealer was trying to convince me his 4xleaf srpung 75 series was a 79 series ,,,:hhmm:
i see middys and shortys advertised heaps as 75 series as well
some people just dont check there tags

Well - if anyone is serious about getting one of these trucks, please email me offline to talk about the details. Basically, I'll find the truck you're looking for and drive it up to Canada.
My email is beauwhicks@yahoo.ca
Thanks.

I heard two good rules from a couple of mentors the other day: 1) pigs feed and greedy pigs get slaughtered, and 2) if your in a position to make a killing, your in a position to get killed.

not sure what you're trying to say there knorrena. Can you explain?

i am going to take a guess.
you are either going to make good money or get royally screwed...

Let me make this a little more clearer for you all without any disrespect intended:
I am only doing this to facilitate a way to get back to Canada with my wife and dog while enjoying a beautiful road trip. I do not intend to make a profit on this whatsoever. For anyone who decides to make a deal with me, I'll happily show you all my receipts.
In the case no one wants to make a deal, no problem. I'm gonna drive one up anyway. We're only back in Canada for a few months then I'll just drive it back down. Like I said, certainly no sweat off my back cause my wife and I love doing that trip.
So honestly guys, at this point, if you're not interested, that's cool. That's so far only 2 people out of potentially thousands that could be. Thanks for your input.
Again, anyone interested in this offer, to own a LHD diesel Land Cruiser at a fair price, email me - beauwhicks@yahoo.ca

dude,
no one is judging you, i have been importing for 9 years and i was just sharing words of wisdom.
seriously, if you can make a profit then you should. why not? rust free LHD Land Cruisers in Canada are non-existant but for your own good STAY WAY from the L series units. if you are going to do this then buy a HD LC and enjoy the ride. you buy a LD LC and we will see your posts on the net about "fawk, the head blew. anyone know where i can get a new one" your wife will be upset, your dog will be upset and you will be blowing $4K to get it back on the road.

but, it isn't my money so what do i care?

Hello,

It looks like an LJ77/78 to me.

You should keep in mind that car owners in Latin America usually cut corners with their mounts' maintenance and repairs. Parts are replaced with cheap third-party copies, service deadlines are not observed and so on. Yet you always hear the car is in "top condition, ready for anything."

And this is not to mention wiring modifications, missing/poor quality bolts and handmade suspension components. The list goes on...

Therefore it is mandatory to take a very close look at this rig or any other.

I think you do not want to be stuck in the middle of nowhere because of a POS component that broke at a fraction of the mileage, or a leaky pipe that was not properly repaired/replaced.

My two cents.

I appreciate all of your input so far. I've been living in here in Honduras now for 5 years and I totally know what you're talking about Juan. I will definitely use a fine tooth comb when it comes to purchase time. Thanks for the reminder.
