Is there anyone in the Scottsdale area that is willing to help a fella out trying to find why I can't pass emissions. Money is too damn tight right now to throw the truck in the shop and it will not pass. There is the offer of   for the assist.

Numbers are....

HC 5.37 with a max of 4.00 Fail
CO 77.7 with a max ov 40.0 Fail
NOX 2.24 with a max of 5.5 Pass

Now I have just done an oil change, plugs, wires, air filter, fuel filter. And idle and timin seem to be spot on. Or at least not far off.

And these numbers are the second go round after I found 2 vacuum lines unplugged.

I stand by the old reliable method of passing sniff tests: Run your tank to about 1-2 gallons of gas, add 1-2 gallons of alcohol and retest. Works every time.

I second this. I went up to Home Depot and bought a gallon of denatured alcohol. Worked like a champ.

x3 on a quart on denatured alcohol into a 1/4-1/2 tank of gas. But make sure that all the vaccum lines are routed correctly and on tight. There's what, like 3 miles of them on the 2F? I found that they came unconnected from that main bundle with 12-15 lines very easily, especially if someone has replaced them with non-metric lines. I don't miss that yearly ordeal anymore, that's for sure. :frown:

With those numbers, I would run half gas, half alcohol for the e-test. Don't know much about 60's, can you flip the top of the air filter housing or add some spacers to make a gap? Don't laugh, that works too:hillbilly:

did this once - worked

did it again - did not work

:meh:

you be the judge

If your tank is down to 1-2 gallons of fuel and you mix in 2 gallons of alcohol, there's virtually no way it can fail. Aparently, you found a way :D

Valve adjustment out, tight, so unburned combustion gases were blowing out the exhaust. So, yep, she found the way.:hillbilly:

Alcohol it is then

I need to try that before I put it in the shop since it is my DD and I live to far from work to walk or take the bus. to everyone for the advice.

Was thinking about E

run it down to almost empty get 1/2 tank of E85 my 60 got about 5mpg with it but passed 3 times now after failing

Wonder if that ethanol eats anything in our carb based fuel systems. I know that FI 62's would probably notice it more or any post 60 LC.

The fuel milage makes sense since E85 is a lot less energy than normal 87/89, but did it run *poorly* on the E? Should have run cooler since the combustion temp is lower on the alky, not sure if thats noticable during hot times of the year.

I would refill with petro so it dilutes the E once you get the test done and drive it for the next couple of days to get rid of it in your tank.

but did it run *poorly* on the E?

yes, it ran purely when I had the alc in there for emissions purposes, barely made it up the hill between Fountain Hills and Scottsdale - but it passed (once)

didya pass ? :bounce:

Nope. Having to put it in the shop. Not happy as I can't afford to but I also can't afford to not be driving it either.
