Hey folks,

So, I went ahead and dug I to the stereo over the past couple days and replaced my non-nav radio setup with an alpine ilx-107. Overall, the install went smooth and all functionality is there. I also installed the micro bypass and ASWC module to retain steering wheel volume controls. All functioning well.

The trouble started with the reverse camera. I can’t get the right wiring configuration to trigger the camera to prioritize the signal and show the video in reverse. The camera has power in reverse and powers up when the rear lights get juice. I can verify that when I manually toggle the camera on. What I don’t know for certain is what wire I need to tap into the trigger the signal in reverse. Anyone know for certain?

My brother has a camera setup in his GX, and his works as it should. We basically mimicked the plumbing for wires and traced he lead back to the driver’s side kickplate side and tapped into a red with black wire in that huge wiring harness down by the driver’s left foot. All looked right, except the mystery remains unsolved...

Can anyone verify the connections i need between the alpine and the GX to trigger the reverse cam? What output wire needs to connect to the reverse wire I ran to the kickplate? Also, there’s a red lead wire attached to the RCA wire that I’m left Scratching my head over...does that get left capped, or actually connect to another wire?

sorry if this sound vague, but in lieu of pics it’s hard to explain. Thanks in advance for the help.

1) what brand model camera do you have?
2) do you have a link to installation manual?

For mine, I tapped into the reverse light blue/red wire for power and grounded to the rear door bolt where ground for rear wiper is at.

After you’ve routed the rest of yellow rca/red signal wire the to the dash, simply connect yellow RCA to rear cam in and red wire to reverse (orange/white IIRC) from your interface cable.

Lastly, post pics of install. I wanted this HU but got KENWOOD instead.

I think I figured it out. More to come once I test my theory, but in the meantime here are pictures of what it looks like installed. I also included a pic of the mic location, which I dig. It works well there, and is really close to where the OEM ML system is placed in GPS equipped units.

To trigger the HU to know it’s in reverse, I tapped into the reverse signal off the transmission gear selector:

I just finished sewing everything back together. I solved it, and the issue lied with the orange and white wire. It was not thoroughly attached to the red lead wire from the RCA cable for the back up camera. 👌🏻

major upgrade. Photo of the cam, which is a cheapo eBay model that is designed for the Prado. Plug and play. 👍🏻
