I have a 1978 FJ40 with a cracked passenger door glass. The window in cracked, but not shattered. I do have a used replacement. My problem is that I cannot get the old one out. I do have the door panel off and the two bolts out for the window crank mechanism. Is there a trick to turning the window within the channels or possibly something else. I've already tried using my entire vocabulary of bad words and it hasen't helped. Thanks, AJS:beer::censor:

I just recently did this. After removing the two bolts at the bottom, try turning the window, it will need to come out at an angle, if that makes sense, not straight up and down. You may have already tried this but that is how i got mine out...
good luck

The "magic key" to removing the window glass, is that you also have to remove a window channel the extends down on one side of the door.

I cannot remember which side it is at the moment, but it is secured with a single bolt at the bottom, and it is removed by sliding it downward after that bolt is removed.

Window channel is in the rear of the door, the same side as the handle. Remove all interior hardware, including the regulator. Remove the window channel. You may want to remove the latch and handle mechanism as well, as space is at a premium. Notice the window on one side has a 45 degree cut on the bottom. turn the window from horizontal to vertical, using the cut part as a guide. Pull it through the top of the door opening where your arm rests. TaDa!

... here's a pic

What Texx said, except - as you can see - you don't have to remove any of the hardware (I took this pic when I was refurbishing my hard doors 'cause I'm so spatially challenged I knew I'd never figure out how to get the glass back in) HTH.

Indeed! Thanks guys! i encountered this exact issue and after removing ONLY the bolt that holds the channel i was able to remove the glass. i appreciate all the input (even after all the time that has passed between these posts and my search in need!)

3 1/2 year info is still good info! I had this same question when I replaced my regulators.......a year or so ago.

AND...another 2+ years and this post helped me also.

Pay attention to both Posts 4 & 5 and you will be good.

Thanks, John
