I need help wiring my regulator it is internal i have a red a white and a blue wire the red wire runs through the case the blue wire gets screwed down with the regulator and is ground i think? help would be much appreciated where does the white wire connect and which wire is ignition and gauge power?

External to the altenator the "B" is white, "L" is Yellow/white, "IG" is Black/yellow, my wiring diagram doesn't show an "S" terminal.

Hope that helps. It's out of my OEM shop manual so I hope it is right!

I wonder if its not the original alternator the wires coming from mine are white, red and blue, on the regulator cover plate where the posts protrude are a B and an E. The sticker on it is warn off but the regulator part no. is 27700-57060-84 the alt came bolted to an 82 3b 12v it has the vacuum pump on the back. Anyone with the same thing could you tell me what its out of so i can get an electrical schematic.

The colors of wires are correct and it sounds like the same as my alternator. The problem lies in the change of color from one side to the other of the connector.
I'll see if I can see both sides of mine tomorrow.

OKAY so
B goes to the battery
ignition is white with black stripe
charge warning light is blue wire
battery is also black wire

this is from my 3b manual for bj60

the e terminal is ground, and the alternator should be grounded through the engine, there should be rubber insulators on the b terminal to keep it off the ground.

Hmmmmmm, Bidgecleach is talking about an internal 3 wire regulator and KKell provides a diagram (and the WRONG color codes) for a 6 wire external regulator.

I hope this goes well.

I think you're looking for this but it doesn't show the regulator wire colors.

Actually i could provide one for an external regulator.... but its clearly labelled alternator regulator. believe it or not inside the alternator three wires go into the regulator and 3 come out, yes making a total of six. and only 3 plus the battery terminal wire are visible from the outside.

I just went through this for my 83 alternator, 3 weeks ago, with an electrician, and it turned out fine.

Just trying to go off what he described, which could use a better description and maybe some pics. Whats the 3b in? what are you trying to mate it too?

confused.....

Can you post a picture, so we can have an idea of what you're trying to accomplish?
Wiring the internal regulator into the alternator, wiring the alternator to the harness, wiring the alternator and the external regulator to the harness, what?

i need to know what the three wires that come from the alternator(ignition,Dummy light,Voltmeter)are so that i can wire it into an 86 pickups alt harness. I bought a new regulator and don't want to fry it by doing trial and error.

my plug doesn't match any ones in that picture it is rectangular and green

Is this plug on the alternator side or on the harness side? Or is it on the Voltage Regulator. Another pic please.

Rudi

I slowly begin to understand what your problem is (I think).
That alternator that you have there.... is it with a internal (build in) voltage regulator or is it one that needs an external voltage regulator?
Both systems were used on trucks with a 3B engine.

If it's with an internal IC voltage regulator the wires are:
S (sense wire connected to B lug)
IG (from ignition switch)
Lamp (to the charge warning light on the dash)
alt bj60 connector1.webp

If it's for an external regulator the wires are:
Null (to the external VR to activate the charge warning light)
Field (from the external VR)
Earth / Ground

Let us know what alternator you have. Maybe you have to open it up to see the internals. As usual...... pics please.

i know what the wires are for i just need to know the corresponding colours.
