Hey folks, on my quest to aquire more old Toyotas I stumbled on the ad below which is local to me

I was told head gaskets were done along with milling the heads and timing belt back around 200k. New oversized radiator installed and virtually NO rust .

Drives ok, no wobbles . Certainly nothing to drool over here but curious on folks opinions of this rig paired with the v6

The lack of rust is exciting and the owners is willing to trade for some snowmobiles which is cool , and possibly suspicious lol as he mentions this is his friends rig hmmmm bit whatever he has notarized title

Any pre paint job pictures?

Negative, it's his "Buddy's" car lol...sorta weird back story but the guy seems semi legit . Paint job is old enough to see some little rust forming in areas and it doesn't seem like they just painted over a bunch of rust.

It was strangely good looking , certainly had some leaks and stuff ( power steering pump looked wet ) but really didn't see any rust underneath or around the body

Looks pretty good to me. The add says it's been a project vehicle. I'd ask what remains to be completed with the project.

Appreciate the post, unfortunately this guy backed out last minute so I've moved on...... It did seem kind of sketchy as he continued to mention this is "his buddies" vehicle and was willing to trade for a snowmobile lol Funny to see he dropped the price by a grand as well, something may be fishy there.

Glad I passed on it.... but now I'm pretty hooked on the older 4Runners ( and I also like the little toyota pickups too ) The 4R with like the plastic pickup style bed and fold down seats is SWEET. I don't need a rig to build for off roading but as my corolla dies I really want another old stick shift toyota that I can whip around town.

Finding one not beat to s*** or too rusty is tough but I'll keep my eyes peeled.

Depending how mechanically inclined you are, the rigs you've been looking at may all be doable for you so I'd go for the least rust personally.

Agreed, it seems like that is the underlying theme for any new ( old ) vehicle purchase, that damn rust.

I know my way around a vehicle and can wrench a bit BUT my lack of garage / dry space / working outside in gravel driveway discourages me from doing a lot.

I saw @PIZZZA's old rig is still up for sale, just need my damn snowmobiles to sell so I can be armed with cash lol

1st gen 4Runner would be cool. Been cleaning up PO wiring that also always seems to be an issue. Maybe talk with @PIZZZZA regarding condition and rust.

Totally, he mentioned about that amount of cash being dumped into the rig when he owned it so I figure the 4300 sale price is worth it.. Interior looks great..

Just need to fill up the piggy bank first, damnit

2 door is rare. I don't think I'd want a 2 door in that body style though.

Yeah the body was sort of cool looking but I think I like the idea of the pop top I see on most of them. seem like a bit more of a pickup truck style back end

I seem to be leaning more towards the 4R than the first gen toyota pickup. The pickup bed would be sweet to get bike and other stuff around but the SUV would provide more function for me. Also it seems like the pickups are harder to find in decent shape compared to 4R at least in my area.

If you can find an 84-85 solid axle that would be nice. 85 had EFI option too.

Just posted on Mud, man these are cool rigs. I need something less built , and less cost lol

Damn this guy wants $27K? wtf maybe a typo, maybe worth it ? IDK

Nice build page on the latter. Being in Louisiana unless on the coast itself or flooded in a past flood could be great on the body.

Was hoping you'd chime in. Going through your build page now lol what a bad ass rig, awesome to see you out in Alvord and Christmas Valley area, awesome places to wheel around there...... I just need to save up another $26,500 and I'll have what it takes to buy =]
