Got dinged in a parking lot - two nice black rubber "stripes" on the rear white bumper of my '02 LX470. Cosmetic damage only, nothing structural. I won't claim it on my insurance. Went to the paint shop, they want (ready?) $1,100 to repaint the bumper. Can I simply order a replacement bumper cover? You can probably tell I am a newbie - any suggestions would be much appreciated

A shop should be able to fill in the dings and paint it for far less than that. I wholesale cars and something like that would typically cost me $150-$200 to get fixed, at the most. I would think retail price would be $250-$300, what you got quoted is insane.

See if you local dealer has a Colors on Parade or some other mobile repainting vendor who could do it for you.

I vote for replacing the whole bumper, and I'm sure the guys with the Slee rear bumper would too.

Got a scratch? Just hit it with little touch up.

Need to find a new paint shop.

Welcome to the forum!

My wife backed into a fire hydrant almost two years ago. There was enough damage that it couldn't be filled in, it required a new cover.

Body shops quoted me around $600-$700.
I founf a guy who works in one of those body shops who did it on the side for $400. Did an awesome job.

My point is if all it needs is to be filled in and repainted, you should be able to get it done for far less than what they quoted you.

nope, I'm the official forum forture teller.... strangely, I foresee some of your threads could well turn out to show interesting self-deprecating language in the future... :D

Thanks for the welcome and the good advice. I will check into a few other options and most certainly not pay the ridiculous quote I received.

Glenn, I'll be replacing the OEM bumper on my '03 LX w/ an aftermarket one. Check your ih8mud mail.

Which bumper are you getting Jim?

Kaymar dual pivot. I don't plan to use either of the pivots in the immediate future, but Kaymar only makes them now as dual or no pivot (so they tell me).
