Solid advice. I am definitely looking for newer models primarily and ideally hoping to hold out for a 06-07 model. But yeah, even the premium on those doesn’t guarantee they still won’t need $5k+. But the way I see it, the newer every component is the better

I know the 100 series are somewhat fussier but I had a similar mindset when shopping for my LS430 several years ago. Was able to find a southern 1 owner vehicle. Lexus dealer maintained for most of its life. Needed some minor things but not too much in deferred maintenance
@NeedaLX, what Kabanchik said is pure gold. I never got this kind of advice from LC/LX guys who I got advice from. They all said -"Easy peasy ownership." "Zero to no upkeep. Regular maintenance and hit the trails!".

Also, can you expect 14MPGs out of a 100 series? With skimpy, zero rolling resistance tires and a lot of wishing upon a star...maybe. I have seen 14 out of mine on a highway, in town I don't even get 9. Would I have any other vehicle than my Bertha, maybe a 570 but that's it. I love my plump gal too much.

Well.... HaveaLX

Purchased a 2006 with 92,000 miles, bone stock, clean frame, and generally flawless inside and out. Flew out to pick it up and promptly drove 900 miles home against better judgement

Not a fun drive but it handled it like a champ. Very pleased with the comfort and smoothness of the AHC. The power of the VVT felt adequate and managed a modest 19 mpg cruising at 70

It's not clear when the timing belt was last serviced (if ever), so that will be the first thing on the list, along with AHC service, and the rest of the 90k mile items. Also need to add a Gromm unit ASAP

Overall very pleased with it and happy to be finished with the search
The one thing that did come up on the drive..

ABS, vsc trac, and vsc off lights came on after several hundred miles. The first time was after stopping/slowing down after several hours of driving

The last half of the trip the lights would go on/off intermittently after applying brakes and coming to a full stop. Brake performance felt fine to me, no unusual brake characteristics from what I could tell

Any thoughts on this? I know these have some common/potentially $ brake booster/master issues. Hoping it is something simple like a sensor

I guess this is my first 100 series forum research/troubleshooting topic... :bookworm:

Congratulations and enjoy it in good health.
Best approach is always use a scanner to understand the code/s and start from there. Could be as simple as the ABS sensor/s being dirty/needs servicing, and hopefully is a simple fix.

Connect terminals Tc and E1 of Check Connector (in engine bay) and remove the short pin (normally inserted in bottom right corner).
Turn the ignition switch on.
Depress the brake pedal 8 or more times within 5 secs.
You can now read any DTCs on the ABS Warning Light, but if everything is OK, you get the Normal Code (on-off blink with 0.25 sec intervals).
Revert Check Connector to normal.

Yeah, 14 is too high. Considering my LS does 28 mpg on the highway and I still average 18-19 mpg/tank tells me I'm looking at closer to 9-10 in the LX. On the plus side I don't necessarily have to log a ton of miles each week. Haven't decided on wheel/tire setups yet

Congratulations and enjoy it in good health.

Techstream coming soon. Meant to get that ready before I bought the vehicle

Question regarding the AHC and overhead clearance

At the moment I’m not sure whether the LX will fit in my garage without modification to the hinge of the garage door (hangs down too low when garage door is open, clearance isn’t an issue with door closed)

It’s either going to fit or not fit by a matter of millimeters given the stock height dimension of the LX. It will fit for sure however with the AHC set to LOW

Is there any potential risk with driving in and out of the garage in LOW mode? How long does it take the vehicle to raise up once moving? Or does it only raise once you reach a certain speed?

And when the vehicle is parked in LOW it doesn’t automatically raise back up after the vehicle is turned off, correct?

No, if it's in LOW, it'll stay in low until you start driving. Not sure but I think it's around 10 MPH that it automatically comes back up.

Looks like it’s 3 MPH

I’m glad to hear that because it’s a very functional use case

Although I’m already picturing forgetting to drop in LOW just once before pulling in…

May consider altering the door regardless. Fingers crossed it fits on N

I rarely forget to drop into L before going into my garage. So much so that I find myself trying to push a switch in our other vehicle that doesn't exist... ;)

Congrats on the score! Looks great.
Yeah, I don't want to settle and plan on keeping this vehicle long term

Which begs the question... that I'm sure has been discussed on here countless times

Wanting a newer model for primarily on-road use - should I truly hold out for a 06-07? Or be open to 05s too?

I've only driven 4-spd, pre-vvti upgrade years, so can't say how much the power increase is worthwhile. Definitely want the 5-spd
I’m still dying on my 03-05 sword, you get the 5 speed & the much simpler non-VVTI. I also prefer the old cheap bulbs instead of LED tails.

If you don’t pound highway miles, a 4 speed is also a great score for price. The 06-07 unicorns just aren’t worth it imo. It’s still a truck to me, not an investment.

No VVT slander in this thread please ;)

Will have to agree to disagree. While I never anticipated finding or buying a 100 series this clean, I have no regrets. Legitimately looks and feels like a brand new vehicle

Not exaggerating when I say there are 1-2 year old trucks driving around with more cosmetic flaws. No idea how previous owners kept it so pristine

Congratulations, looks super clean inside and out, nice find!

Thanks! The only negative I can point to so far is that it now has me considering whether I need to replace my LS with one this clean :shame:

For two vehicles roughly the same age and mileage, complete opposite body and paint conditions

Somewhat ironic given their intended uses...

Congrats man nice find! I snagged my '06 late last year. I likely overpaid a bit for a cosmetically tired but incredibly rust free SC rig w/ 208k. But was coming from such a rusty rig previously that I was dead set on finding some ac lines and a rear cross member I could eat off of. Seems like you scored a unicorn!

Thanks! I saw your thread, looks like a very clean one also

I'm definitely fond of the GGM. One of several colors I would prefer to silver

Let's face it, unless you luck into one, most of us are overpaying at this point

I didn't have much interest in acquiring someone else's project, so finding one stock was very important

Prepare to spend about 10X more on gas over your Accord if you’re gonna daily an LX. Welcome !

10x? So is the Accord getting 150 mpg?

keep in mind the VVTI engines are few and far between.. I like buy 2001... look at u-tuber "the carcare nut" ... he is starting to see head gaskets deteriorate, etc. he has seen later ones get scrapped when used VVTI engines cannot be found if needed.. 98-2001 are simpler. parts everywhere. no Nav. so easy to upgrade stereo.. I do like the 4 speed in it. .. it is a cruiser.. it goes everywhere great smoothly at its own pace. I think 00-01 are the best year as No-Nav and A-Trac standard. as well as as 4 pinion front diff.

Too late! The goal hopefully is to not ever need a new engine

But couldn't one simply put in a non-VVT in an 06-07 if needed?

I definitely get those who prefer the simplicity of the older models
