So I did a search for vehicle transporters and came across a few mentions of "express auto transport" as an option. I would like to share my experiences with these crooks:

I went to their website and was given a quote for shipping. To formulate the quote I answered a number of questions INCLUDING "is the vehicle operable?". I answered all questions and received a quote. Two days later I went back to the site and confirmed the order... and heard nothing. I attempted to call the number given... no answer. Tried again... and again... until finally I got through. The person on the other end informed me that the quote needed to go up $150 becasue they didn't know the truck was in-operable... but they did... but hey, computers, ya know? Never can trust them...
BULL****! What can't be trusted is slippery freight companies that try and raise their rates after giving a quote and blame it on computers. SO. Any suggestions on a more reliable/honest transport company on the west coast?

I used a guy called Mcnutt transport.
keep in mind, he is a broker, ( or was, 8 years ago), so he sells "seats" on a auto carrier.
i shipped a 60 from Kansas City, to New Jersey, for $550.00., almost half of what other guys wanted.
the trade-off was, i had to wait, he said up to two weeks, but it ended up being only a few days.
remember, to have the shipper remove the antenna, mirrors, and anything else.

Sounds like all that money could go into getting the truck operable and then you could just drive it up yourself. Sure I had to pay for a one way airline ticket, but it was only $150

Find a local auto auction. They will have transports there and you can usually work a deal to help finish a load. They dont want to go empty but you might have to wait a little.

I used Kiwi Karriers out of Washington State to haul a 1979 Chevrolet Pick-Up from Tucson, Az. to Auburn, Al $1,100.00 . Very proffessional and on time.
Also use the search tool probably some good info there. Good luck to you.

I used DAS without any problems. The satellite tracking stuff is pretty cool.

thanks for all the input... I found a carrier called "best rate freight" that will do it for $750... that's $100 more than express auto originally quoted me but still less than the final bid... and these guys haven't tried to screw me (yet). if they bail I'll try some of the suggested other options... (and it's missing some major drive-line parts... not worth the fix... it's getting a 3B when it gets up here)

Did you buy that 62 that was for sale in California? Looked like a perfect rig for a 3B swap. Have you got the 3B yet to drop in?

I met you at Cruiser Days in Surrey. I also did the same thing as you did with your current rig. I am thinking about another, my friend on Vashon Island 'needs' a diesel 60.

Petzel... yes on both counts... picking up the BJ60 for the swap Saturday... and who knows when the 62 from California will get here. In the end the shipping is equal to the cost of the vehicle! Ah well... no rust... cheers!

Did you end up using these guys? How'd they treat you? How much did it cost?

I'd like to know what you find out, fe sus. I'm going to need to ship an HJ60 that I'm importing. I've got to get it from Long Beach, CA to Eastern Washington. I've gotten bids that range between $250 and $2000. I feel like I'm adopting a child from China...
