Hi guys, am visiting my son -in-law in the Sugar Land/Missouri City Texas area & we can't find to buy a 54 mm thin wall socket to pull the hub on his truck. ( 2 1/8 will work also. ) We of course can get ot off w/o the socket but want to torque it back on.

I will be happy to pick up & return tomorrow, as well as leave $$deposit. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

PM your phone # and I will get right back to you.

Thanks ! John

Most Sears stock the 2 1/8" socket, you can call ahead to make sure it is there before you make the drive.

Will the sears socket work....I was thinking you need the thin-wall hub type sockets?

This is a good point. I need to know before tearing down my axles. Anyone have the answer? Does a standard socket work?

Thanks for the responses so far. But yes it does require a thin wall socket. So far we've looked at a bunch of places in the Houston area and have come up with zero. JT - thanks for your response but still looking for immediate help here today - but still might still order from you tonight.

Anyone else with a thin wall 54mm in Missour City/Sugar Land area let me know.

Howdy! Worst case senario, you buy the Sears socket and grind it down. If you do it slowly, it will still be able to handle the torque required for a hub nut. John

That seems to be pretty desperate. Do you know any local guys at shops? Ask to borrow it and leave a deposit. I would do that before modifying one..

Like I said, "worst case senario". On the other hand, depending on time, location, and availability of a loaner, it would work pretty easy. I grind down sockets all the time for special applications on my printing presses. Mfg does not even offer tools to fit this stuff, so I invent my own as I go. John

Mine is out of stamped steel & cost about $5-10 IIRC.

You guys are way over thinking this.

The Sears 3/4 drive 2 1/8 socket works great-no grinding needed. Fits like it was made for this job. Kind of spendy.

The OTC Toyota one also works great, fits perfectly.

The Slee Offroad one looks just like the OTC one, just a different color. Good price on this one.

Trail Gear also has one for $14. In the pictures, it looks OK.

The stamped steel one from SOR and probably MAF is crap. You will round out the points after 4-5 uses.

Andrew, you typed faster than me

regular Sears 3/4 drive 2 1/8" socket worked on my 1980 40 series disc axle, also worked on my 62 series front end, hubs should all be the same

Thanks to all who helped & a special thanks to Josh who is ' Da Man '. Never saw me b/4...loaned me the tool, no deposit etc. It's all good.

Thanks MUD, John

good enough...and in the future remember that tractor (farm) supply stores have large sockets at reasonable prices...
