BUMP -

I didn't purchase on Wednesday, but would like to do so this weekend, if I can get a comfort level with this.

Navigations says, "Route Not Found" and won't respond. All other multifunction display controls work. It is a 2004 LX 470.

Thanks in advance.

I'd start by seeing if there's a map DVD...check under front passenger seat.

It has a disk, but the dealer is saying the problem might be caused by the fact the disk is outdated and not connecting with the satellite. Make sense?

Is this at a Lexus dealer? If so, make them fix it. If not, I'd consider walking away or a substantial deal so you can go have the system repaired. An outdated disk should still work.

No. It is a CarMax and I am already paying a premium and they don't negotiate. Thing is, the car is low miles and good shape, with excellent service and no rust. I'd like to make it work.

An "old" dvd should work with no problems.

The disk shows only locations...has zero to do with the NAV system acquiring the satellites.

Does it allow you to enter destinations? If yes, please make sure you are choosing the correct part of the country before entering addresses. Try a few different addresses as the disc might be older. Maybe try a restaurant from the list of POI.

I can't remember what errors being in the wrong zone will cause - like if CarMax got the 100 from CA and the nav is set for that region.

It could be that the disc is damaged. But an old outdated disc will still work perfectly. Well, if by perfect you consider the map crossing rivers without a bridge, blazing through the woods where there's no road, perfect.

My '06 has the original disc and "functions" perfectly. It often takes us on the "vintage" routes. Actually, I don't think I've used it in a year. The iPhone is my preferred navigator.

If the system isn't getting gps data it doesn't know where it is so it can't know where to go. But, I'm not clear if you are getting an error code or if you're keying in a destination and its saying it can't find it. If that's the case ensure the address you are looking for is in the search zone that's selected as the default zone. Selections are in the setup menu. You might also try putting the system into diagnostic mode: I clipped this from the sticky gps override thread, I have a gen2/3 and its a different procedure to the 2004MY but you should still get a screen up where you can look at what's going on and it might reveal something.
1. Press Menu button.
2. On the screen that appears, there is a volume button--press it.
3. On this screen, there are no buttons at the top left corner and bottom left corner, but press in this order; Top, bottom, top and bottom (Upper left and lower left) .
4. A new screen will appear with multiple buttons.

Old discs still work, you just have outdated mapping data, the discs don't actually communicate with the satellites, but your system has to have lat/long positional data from the gps navstar system to work.

I went down to the car and played with the nav (I have the same gen4 as you). I found out one cannot input an address that doesn't exist in the zone you have currently chosen. The letters get greyed out. So my earlier suggestion to make sure you are in the correct zone was wrong. Can you please explain in more detail how you got to the screen with the message "route not found"?

I believe the system uses the last known location, but Paddo could be on to something. I would suggest you test drive the car for about 5-10min until the map on the screen show your real location. When I installed my unit it took almost 10 minutes for the car to figure out where it was. It was showing somewhere in NY and I live on the west coast. After the car knows where it is you can try to play with destinations again and see if it works.

Thanks for all the help. I am not sure what happened before I looked at the car, but now, when you start it and press the I Agree button, the navigation screen appears and there is an message at the bottom left that says, "Route not found." I've asked them to try resetting the search area per the recommendations above and an owner's manual I found online. I'll let you know if that works. Best regards,

I personally wouldn't make my decision on the quality of the Nav system. If I did, I'd be driving a Ford.

I haven't used my Nav since I bought mine, rather all on my phone.

Talk them down $200 and you can buy an adapter from USA Spec to run through factory system.
