Confused again - the service writer says no updates for the maps in the car - all up to date. The parts department says there is an update out. Is this a Garmin system? Is this site applicable: Toyota Map Updates

Also, how to tell what the current version is and what I have? I have 86271-60422 on the back of the MicroSD.

Toyota NA says to call the dealer.

Help anyone? Tks much!!

The current version of the maps is buried in the Nav unit... under Info or Setup, I can't recall which, but I've seen it before.

Not Garmin. Can't remember who. I think it may be a combination including Tom Tom? In any case, like most Nav systems based on decade-old technology (grrr) updates cost $300-400 and are soon out of date. And they only come out once per year. Since you bought a 2018 its likely you have the latest. (Before I owned the LC the vehicles I had seemed to do updates in the November timeframe so I would not expect that the 2019 update, if there is one, comes out in January of 2019.)

I can certainly appreciate your frustration.

This is the reason I bought a Samsung Tablet (has built in GPS unlike my iPad) and purchased a premium subscription to GAIA mapping software.

Ram offers some great solutions for mounting.

I think the site you linked to is applicable, if you want to download updates yourself from Garmin and you have a '16+ Land Cruiser. You'll need to confirm this, because I was led to that site when I intended to update map data in my '17, but ended up not actually doing it. I'm not sure about earlier year LCs. If you have a '16+ Land Cruiser, you can check the map data version on the screen. The instructions are on page 105 of the nav manual for my '17. Hit the NAV button, then on the screen hit Options and then Map Data. The resulting screen will give you the version and year of the map data as well as instructions for updates. It used to be that Toyota released map data once per year in October, so your data should read at least 2018 for the most recent. However, I don't know if that's still the case, because I use my iPad and Google maps for navigation. The part number for the microSD card may not change from year to year? If it was me, I would believe the parts dept before I believed the service writer.

Are you sure the '16+ LC is not Garmin? I was led to the site linked in the OP for updates, and it looks Garmin-based.

Map updates came out a few weeks ago. The 16-18 model year vehicles are an MSD card update part number below, list price $210

As mentioned, the service writer said im all up to date. Parts - says update available. Parts says Denso Corp is the co. that puts out the map and the most current version is 17.1 and a number of 862710E071, whatever that is. Called Garmin and they told me that they stopped doing Toyota somewhere around 2007. What I now have is below:

the most current version of the map is 18.1. This map was released on 1/6/2019. I listed the part number above. Call your local parts department for help, This is all listed in a PANT bulletin (Your parts department should understand that Reference)

Tks. I told them I had the 86271-60422 on the back of the MSD. But he didnt know what that meant. Ill get it. tks again.

Is it just an update on map data or the whole crappy system improvement?

The 99 Viaduct in Seattle just closed down to be replaced by a tunnel. Anyone know if the latest update shows that change? My Nav is basically worthless since it wants to send me over the non-existent Viaduct any time I head south.

Google Maps or Waze is your friend.

I don’t know about that change, but it points out the fundamental problem with factory nav systems. They are not continuously updated and often miss those type of things. Until Toyota gets with the program and offers CarPlay and Android Auto with Google maps, aftermarket or smartphone nav is the way to go, literally and figuratively.

I agree and Google Maps is my primary form of nav, but the fact that my truck can no longer navigate around my hometown rubs my OCD the wrong way.

I just updated my 2011 200 series with a Toyota part # 86271-GEN06-18. Next time in Seattle will let you know about the tunnel. I contacted Toyota because 2 dealers could not find the part. Lithia Toyota in Springfield Or. called me and I ordered the part. The disc I got is what went into the 2018 200 series ( so I upgraded 7 years ) but the parts guy said that these things come direct from Denso and the new discs are usually released in the spring. Just once a year. It was very easy to install: directions in navigation booklet in my glove box page 352.

That’s one of the things I enjoy about my 2011 also, easy to update the Nav software.

I upgraded to the same software before LCDC this year. A whopping $11 on Amazon.
