Yes another grease thread. I am being a paranoid mud member. I just thought new spindles and wheel bearings. I picked up Palladium for the birfields but NAPA only had NAPA brand wheel bearing grease for the wheel bearings. I usually use Lucas red and tacky in the bearings. Will the napa wheel bearing grease be fine in th bearings?

You sound like you have a case of OCD, so I'd recommend you go find some Red-n-Tacky so you'll feel good.

For the average Joe, if it says 'for wheel bearings' on the package, it will work just fine. Any extra special magic in the boutique brands is over and above what you need and won't make a difference in the real world.

FWIW, NAPA is good grease, but honestly you'd be hard pressed to find any 'bad' grease. Wrong grease is a different story, just make sure what you use is intended for the job you're putting it to. I use Walmart moly on everything, 'cause that's how I roll. It exceeds requirements for everything except the birfields, where it only meets the requirements. Even there, it's probably better than anything that was available in 1997.

OCD??? Well I am here on mud so obviously. But honestly, thanks for the info. That is kind of what I was thinking when I bought it.

As mentioned, any grease is better than no/low grease or contaminated grease.

I've been using Mobil 1 Synthetic grease for wheel bearings for a couple of decades, no issues. Having said that, next time I might just go with the Palladium all the way around as it is wheel bearing rated. Valvoline also makes a NLGI #1 Palladium grease if you live in a cold place. FWIW.

Yes that grease is compatible with palladium as well as the gear oil that will eventually contaminate the birfs and bearings.

The Napa WB grease has a lower drop temp than RNT2, which means it will liquify during long runs, then become more solid when you stop and cool down. It doesn't hurt anything, just a different and cheaper grease.

I personally like the higher pressure capability of the RNT2 So I can feel comfortable running 35 LB-FT on my wheel bearings.

Palladium on birfields and bearings would be ideal but I thought we didnt want molly grease on the wheel bearings. Did I miss understand that?
But it does say right on the valvoline web page that it is good for wheel bearings.

Palladium containers say it’s good for wheel bearing, Ujoints, etc. I’ve been using moly (black) grease in everything on every truck I’ve owned for more than 20 years. If it says “for wheel bearings” there’s no need to look any further. I like Palladium so damn much I bought an entire ten tube case at Napa a couple months ago.
