Who knows what this is?

It's located near the lower left heater register, adjacent to the DS footwell.

It's plugged into the register, and tees toward the firewall (large end) and the DS seat (small end)

in my LX450 1996 this components have cabin temperature probe plugin in the wide opening , In Land Cruiser that do not have AUTO temperature button it just a nest for the probe. I can be wrong been wrong before but according to your location description that seems correct place.

That’s the heating nipple biconnector sensor omnibus. Looks backwards to me.
