Mystery box in the ceiling of my 120

I have a 2005 KZJ120 GX (diesel) with all the bells and whistles, and one mystery box in the ceiling above the third row seats. It has a row of red LED's facing foreward, that come on with ignition on. They don't change, standing still, going foreward, reversing (someone suggested they are warning you of approaching objects while reversing, but they do not change however close you get to walls etc. I also have the audio alarm while reversing, this functions ok).

What is this thing?

Yes, I do. With wireless headphones. You may be on to something!
But why the lights? Some kind of IR-transmission to the headphones?

Exactly, they probably are just on the edge of the infra-red spectrum so that look like leds.
