Old machinery like that is pretty amazing. To think that not too many
years ago, that was state-of-the art equipment to saw logs in the field.

Great restoration work. Belongs in a museum.

WOW! Bet that would bring a hefty sum at the right auction.

Do you have an idea how many were made?

For a Museum quality one that runs they bring a really hefty price. Over $5k for a Vaughn like this one.

My serial number is in the 5,000 range.

Souix started making the same unit, but out of aluminum. They were able to lighten it about 80 to 100lb's and it used 16:1 fuel mix. (1 quart of 30 weight in 5gal of gas.)

In 1926 a one man wood cutting machine was made and by the early 30's it became what we would call a 2-man chain saw. In the early 50's the conventional one man chain saw was introduce.

I have a piece of Diston literature from around 1952 that states "The Diston is the lightest one man chain saw at 97lbs and 3hp."

97 pounds! Imagine what they would think if they saw(no pun intended), what was available today.

Thanks for sharing:)

I'd like to see that thing in action. I think we used to have one that was close to that in age, but it had been long out of commission.

Dan,

That is too cool.. I guess you really do need a big arse shop to store all of the saws.... ;-)

That reminds me of some of the old water pumps at the county fair. Wish you could add sound to those pics.

Is that for a belt drive?

Where is the Video :D

I ran down to the basement and took a few photos of my Stover. This thing hasn't run for at least 30 years. I know nothing about it, but would love to get it running, one day.
