I got off the plane in Paraburdoo(find that one on google earth) at 4pm and at 5pm drove out of town in my new 1995 HZJ75 troopy.
It was just like the owner promised and he knocked $500 off to cover my airfare and fuel home.I couldnt find a spec of rust anywhere. It does have a dent in the drivers door hoping it can be popped out.
There is some seepage from the rear mains ,thrust bearing is squawking in take off, brakes are a little on the soft side ,the heat insulation pad under the bonnet needs replacing and the rear tank fuel gauge always shows empty.
Apart from that small list ,its great. I dont actually mind fixing known things like cutches and rear main oil seals, but rust I will not tolerate
It has a twin Kaymar tyre racks incorporating a steel bumper and tow bar, narva driving lights,40 channel cb and lots of 12 volt outlets and extra interior lighting.
the back has a platform for sleeping on with storage boxes underneath.A bit home made looking but functional.
It still running on its original split rims but I will change them for some HD off road rims and tubeless tyres later.

I drove last night on an isolated road for 400klms dodging cattle and roos all the way, then slept at a 24 hr free campsite with 2 roadtrains and 2 other cruisers parked nearby.
Got up again at 3am and drove another 12 hrs straight to get home. Looking forward to my bed and a decent meal tonight.

Congratulations Rosco

She's looks great ! Is that 212000ks ? Bit hard to read ! If they are the only problems you can find so far , I think you've done really well ! No doubt your stoked! Fingers crossed the rear tank gauge is just a broken wire!

I hope it all goes well for you , looking forward to seeing some more pics when you can !

Looks like you were in the middle of nowhere lol

Yep ,212k ,thats pretty low for a troopy of this vintage, which was why I was prepared to travel.
The owner use to live and work in Paraburdoo in the mines ,but now he is FIFO from Adelaide and was only using it to get out to the mine from the airport twice a month.
He was going to take it to Adelaide ,but since picked up a low klm 06 troopy over there and decided to do that one up for travelling
He had only done 10000klms since 08.

Good work mate. My old man had a '91 HZJ75 Troopy. Great truck, though it never managed 140km/h. Tailwind/downhill/35's/LPG inj./turbo/dragged by a LS3???

It was still pulling strong and Im sure it could hit 142kph:D It must be one the rare high performance versions they released secretly.

Good work rosco, gotta be happy with the new beast.
Shame you didn't have the 73 still or you would have the perfect collection now.
I'm jelous of your drive home its a good drive.

Love the troopie... do you mind sharing pics of the sleeping platform in the rear?

I still can't decide on what direction to go with mine, but one of our requirements is a comfortable spot for the :princess: and I to sleep with the pup.

Congrats!

So does the seat go back further from factory, or is that the result of this secret rare HP 1HZ?

If horsepower and acceleration is all it took to move the seat rearward my 2H powered 75 would have plenty of leg room.:D Well in truth the seat would probably move slightly forward.:)

No ,seat does not go further back that I can see, although my troopy has an aftermarket seat so Ill might try an original seat and see how that goes.
At least being a troopy it has some room behind to move the seat back, 2 inches would be enough for me

This aftermarket seat comes with with electric adjustment and is highly uncomfortable .
It has those side things on the base which dig into my legs behind the knees .Its come with one for the passenger seat but that has been replaced with the original.,so obviously the passenger was not impressed either.
The original seats are not comfy ,but some of that aftemarket stuff is pure rubbish. It might be alright in a Skyline or somthing but not in a landcruiser.

The driveway would be looking pretty full, already enough arguements with my son shifting cars around in the morning:D
It would be nice to have a full collection of 7* series, some woman was selling a very nice RJ70 soft top down Dunsborough way last month.
The drive was ok until I got to Geraldton,by then I only wanted to get home.
I couldnt believe the food prices at the roadhouses. I paid $15 for a hamburger at Manilya. Instant coffee ,make your own in a styrofoam cup ,was $4 in some places.
On long runs I normally take a small stove and a Waeco 80 with all the ingrediants for making my own meals.

I will get the troopy out today and pull everything out for a good look and a clean up and see exactly what I got.
I get some more pics up of the rear and interior shots.

congrats Rosco
no rust is important, and troopies seem to be prone to rusting...

I think its to do with the big roof and Toyota's efficient rubber body seals.
Landpimp put forward a theory once regarding the rust in the roof of the 60 series and that it was caused by owners keeping the windows wound up all the time.
This stopped the humidity from escaping ,causing condensation to build up in the roof where it collected at gutter height and rusted from the inside out.

If you pull off the door trims or the trim in the rear of a MWB or 60 series, you can often see rust streaks from condensation on the lower parts of the inside body as well.
Someone else further suggested that people breathing out CO2 , mixed in with the condensation causes a mild acid effect, further accelerating corrosion.
I asked a few 60 series owners with and without rust in the roof and it does seem that those who ventilate their car after rainy periods or leave their windows down half an inch ,have less rust.

On my 75 series after heavy rainy periods ,it always feels damp in there although it has not leaked ,so I open the doors up and let the wind and the sun dry it out.

Another reason troopies rust(and mwb) is that the back wheel arches collect mud and sand.
I use to clean mine out reguarly on the 73 series and they were as clean as whistle.
(Ill be checking them on the troopy as soon as it warms up outside;))

So I think you keep them clean, keep them dry and keep the drainholes free of obstruction, the body will last.
Keeping them dry is probably not so easy in some parts of the world unless you have a heated garage.

Yeah you are one lucky dude... More pictures and you should keep the 75!

My mom is going to be saying holy s*** next week when an hzj73, hzj75, hzj77 and a bj70 are parked outside of the house.

here, we find it with cars with AC.
the owners drive around with the AC on and the windows up. the cold air reacts with the heat from the sun at the metal division.
the metal sweats
rust occures
