Hi folks

I have had my heart set on a 200 series for some time and have lurked these forums frequently to learn and gather info.

A few weeks back a local South Florida dealership advertised a 2021 with ~30,000 miles (one owner; all driven in Florida). I still have a year on my current vehicle lease but it was too good of an opportunity to pass. Third party inspection was positive and the rest is history. I'll be rocking two cars for a while (before you ask, yes, my wife is a saint).

I am beyond thrilled with the purchase - pictures included below. First LC and first Toyota.

I wanted to ask the knowledgeable people here about a few initial things to do to the car. You all have been extremely helpful already - I knew to check the air filter cover and everything (it works, thankfully).

Below is what I'm planning for the next few months of ownership. Eager to here if anything else is recommend.

Rust

Car is in nearly mint condition, but there is still a bit of surface rust on the undercarriage (wheel areas and a few other places - minimal) and two orange-ish bolts on the rear bumper cover. KDSS does not have any surface rust to my eyes. Very small amount of rust starting on the front license plate inserts.

Will look to have this cleaned up and then try to apply Fluid Film myself (seems like reapplication every ~2 years should be fine for Florida). Have never worked on a vehicle myself before so I'll watch lots of tutorials...

Windows

Ceramic tinting on the windshield to reduce UV and heat inside the vehicle. Front and rear windows have already been tinted (not sure if ceramic) by previous owner.

PPF

Previous owner put a film on the hood and the mirrors (potentially factory 3M from Toyota). Not going to do anything further here and will remove or replace when the time comes.

Mats

Previous owner liked the carpet mats which are not my style. Already ordered a fresh set from Husky (another recommendation from these forums).

Maintenance

Previous owner did oil and filter changes every 10k miles (including at 30k). At 35k I'll plan to do the following:

  • oil change
  • air filter
  • tire rotation
  • brake fluid
  • tranny fluid
  • diff fluid
  • transfer case fluid
  • Coolant flush
  • retorque propellor shaft and bolt; lube propellor shaft

Anything I'm missing?

Check the cabin air door operation immediately to confirm it's not broken, and consider adding that Filter to your to-do list. (DIY always on that one). Congrats on the beautiful 200, and a 2021... Awesome!

Thanks! Did this on the lot before I purchased the vehicle. It is working.

The car defaults recirc when started (makes sense given the climate here - not sure if that was changed in the factory settings), so that makes it less likely that someone will damage the door by ripping it open. But I visually confirmed the door closes when I press the fresh air button.

I will change the filter myself when I get a chance.

Beautiful specimen. Congrats on finding and purchasing. Is there any particular reason you want to do all these fluid changes and coolant flush at only 35kmiles? Just follow the bible (maintenance booklet) and you will be fine. Just maybe the coolant flush at 50k miles, if you read some of the stories here on Head gaskets.

Thanks!

That schedule is just based on some light googling and searching around reddit and other places. Happy to just stick to the maintenance booklet.

Yes, I want to change the coolant because I'm scared of the head gasket issue on the 5.7L.

This is the first car I've owned outside of warranty (except the VW Golf I drove back in high school/college) so I'm paranoid and want to be diligent.

Nice find. Depending on when it was first sold, you may still have the balance of the factory powertrain warranty.

I don't think there's anything wrong with doing the coolant that early. It's an easy job and a nice way to familarize yourself with the cooling system. Tranny and transfer case fluid I'll let others weigh in on, but seems early to me.

You need to ditch those tires. It's amazing how different these trucks look with more aggressive rubber on them. You can go up to 285/65R18 with zero issues.

P.S. I'd throw a fumoto valve on your drain pan the next time you do an oil change. That's one of the best quality of life maintenance things you can do.

I'm not gonna lie - the amount of work I'll be doing on this myself is minimal. At least to start.

I would like to be able to change the oil and do the fluid film though. I will look into the fumoto valve.

Would love new tires although these OEM ones are pretty fresh (previous owner replaced right before sale). What would you recommend - note that my garage clearance is tight so I only have an inch or two of added height to play with.

KO3s in 285/65R18. You'll have to check but I don't think you'd have issues with clearance.

Nice rig! Good looking list. Two items I would hesitate to do just yet are the coolant and the transmission fluid. Tranny especiallly. Coolant is an easy job. Not really so for transmission imo. Not difficult exactly, but tedious and has a lot of steps to follow. If the transfer case fluid hasn’t been changed, go for it. If it has, use the 75W Toyota canned unicorn blood or another high end oil spec’d for these cases. Not just any diff fluid will do here.

Thanks man!

Based on feedback in this thread I'm going to save coolant for 50,000 miles.

I noticed a colored liquid underneath the A/C drain when I got home from work today.

Car went in for an oil change and a brake flush on Monday. I haven’t driven it since then. First time this has happened since I brought the car home a few weeks ago.

Is this coolant? It was yellowish in appearance - wiped up very easily and did not leave a stain on the epoxy.

Coolant is pink.

Coolant is pink.

I know less than nothing about cars man (trying to learn as I go).

Google was telling me that green or yellow = coolant.

Any idea what it could be? Doesn’t seem like oil.

What did it smell like? Sorry I didn’t mean to be short. I’d be sus of it being a sloppy oil change given what they serviced and the picture you shared. What region was it from? Can you crawl under and inspect the skids?

0 need to apologize. I really appreciate the help and am trying to level set a bit so you know my competency level.

Was under the front of the vehicle. Definitely looked like the area where the A/C condensate drips out.

Skids look oily/slick around those holes for sure. Hard to see but here’s a picture.

Edit: did not get a chance to smell it. Cleaned it up before I realized that would have been a good idea.
