My new(if I can get it here) 40

My Uncle out in Utah found this 40 and sent me a couple of pics. I talked to him and sent the the money my uncle is going to drive to his place in Parowin and keep it till I figure out how to get it home. option 1- fly or ride a train and drive it back to alabama. option 2-drive my f350 out and trailer it back . or option 3) have it hauled back. cheapest Ive found is $1200. anyway.....its a 74 with a 350 thats supposed to have been built less than 5000 mi ago. ps already done. looking at the pick the bib must have been changed because of the square bezel(like my 79) and has the newer doors. new heater core was ordered fisrt of this week and should be in soon. paid $2500. for it. Motor and truck is dirty try to look through that.

I once had the same scenario and I found some site???? That sent out multiple requests to vehicle transport services and I was able to play one against the other until I finally had cut the cost a bunch! They will start working with you such as you have to wait until they are already hauling by there and that would cut costs and I would have to pick it up from a certain location and that would cut costs etc. etc. etc.

Good luck it was annoying and rather boring but i cut the costs a bunch. You may have already tried that

Well, just got off the phone with my uncle. told the guy he would send a rollback to bring it to his house (about 200mi) and the guy said ..why? just drive it, it,ll make no problem. He also said he just put new brakes all the way around it.

I would get on the train and drive it back.

Fill up the brake reservoirs, check all your fluids, take it on a shake down ride for a bit and look things over again and drive it back.



20 years from now you will look back on this time and likely think about the good times you had and the great experiences you gained along the way.

Even better if you have a friend that you want to road-trip with who wants to share in the adventure.

My wife would get mad if I took who I wanted to ...... my 16 yr old son has already claimed my 79 . Lou im afraid this one is going to end my toy buying for a little while.....havent even told my wife yet...hmmmmm might be a good time to get her a new pair of ear rings or something. ------- edit :just got another email quote for $930 to get it here.

Ron great score on the 40. I had my 40 that I purchased in CO shipped back to NC for $450 and I had it in 7 days delivered 5 miles from my home. I originally was going to drive it but at the time gas was really high and not knowing the full mechanical ability I decided to ship it. The price at the time was cheaper than the fuel would have coast. I will still make a long journey when I get the resto complete. Good luck!!

Nice rig for the money. Looks like it even has a full cage. Just fly over and drive it back. check your tool bag as a carryon and buy some fluids there to bring with you if you need em. I say drive it also. I purchased mine from a guy here on mud and drove it from Salt Lake to So Cal. I was able to talk my buddy into a road trip and it was an adventure I will never forget.

When we topped off the gas we found a big leak around the sending unit. Needless to say he was a little concerned when his feet got wet. When we got on the freeway I learned first hand what death wobble was. Wow, white knuckle ride the whole time. We did it 4th July weekend with the hardtop. I think it was 113 degrees at one point. We had a cooler full of Gatorade and drank a ton of it and never had to piss.

It was scary at times and it died about 30 miles from home. Eventually got it going and made it home.

Would I do it again?

Hell Yes!
