I didn't realize I never updated this after our trip to CO.

I only have one picture on this computer, but I'll update more soon.

haha I've been to that sign a few times! a very welcome sight after driving all the way from the east coast

What was the final weight of the trailer? Looks awesome!

Met Ary and his girlfriend while camping back in Oct. He has an awesome setup that is still evolving.

Finally got some pictures off the camera and onto this computer!

Looks like a Koenig body and they nare physically impossible to shorten due to the fact they are not welded bins, they are seamed. best of luck

Arya,

so, what would you do differently for the next trip?

You mean when we're heading back to CO this coming August? :grinpimp:

By then the trailer should be much more "finished" with a lot of the little details completed.

My biggest goal for the trip is to spend more time exploring specific areas and less time driving. I'm hoping to accomplish this by taking more time off of work and by staying in one place longer. We both fell in love with Telluride. Ironically I think it is far more expensive than Ouray, but it felt very homey to us, while Ouray felt very elitist.

I'd also like to spend more time in the back country. I'm embarassed to say we spent every night of the last trip in a formal camp ground. BUT we didn't hit a motel once the entire trip, so I guess that's somewhat redeeming. ;p

I've got the bug to work on the trailer again lately, so hopefully I'll be posting some updates here soon. I'm also actively shopping for a late model LS-style V8 for my 80, so perhaps we'll be taking the 80 to CO in August instead of the Duramax. I really missed the 80's maneuverability/capabilities on the trails in CO.

Interesting observation on TRide vs Ouray. My impression is just the opposite!

Anyway, we'll be setting up base camp at Ouray on 7/25-7/29. A friend is getting married on top of Imogene pass, how cool is that! Maybe we'll see you.

Good luck with the trailer mods.

Very cool! I doubt I'll be out there then, I'll probably miss you by a week again. :frown:

TRide the resort feels VERY similar to my home mountain, Snowshoe, WV. The town also has a very cool feel to it IMO. Ouray felt like the ultimate Jeep JK poser's paradise. If I saw one more bolt-on built JK I was going to puke. ;p

They both were definitely "shi shi" and not quite the remote back country towns I had anticipated.

Looks neat, how wide is the inside of the bed? I have a 52" wide racing quad and have been thinking of how to have a do everything type trailer. (Z400 440cc thumper)

Mine is 49" wide inside. I don't know if a dually bed would be wider inside, but I don't think so. If it's just a racing quad that's pretty light, you could probably put it up on top fairly easily without adversly affecting the handling characteristics.

I saw where someone split one down the center to narrow it, you certainly could widen one the same way.

How is the independent suspension? I am leaning towards doing this on my trailer build as well, but I am worried about alignment issues...did you have any problems with not being able to adjust Toe or Camber? Does it tow straight? Any other input or feedback on the handling and suspension of your trailer would be appreciated! Thanks!

The independent suspension has been flawless so far. I didn't end up building it so that it was adjustable, but it didn't require any adjustment and tows perfectly straight. I was worried it might wag or be otherwise unruly, but I can honestly say there wasn't a single negative attribute to the way it tows. This includes over rough washboard roads as well as interstate at speeds of over 80mph.

As a caveat to all of this, I was EXTREMELY cognizant of the alignment and did everything within my power to make sure the wheels were parrallel. I did this by building the arms, and then aligning everything before final welding the tabs that hold the arms to the frame.
