Thanks to everyone who gave me ideas on how to make a welder cart. I got a lot of ideas here and over at the miller forums.

Here is where I ended up today. I still have to chop off the excess, notch a few more spreaders, make a shelf on top and bottom, and add a few hooks for the cables and tools.

Pretty simple, and I will be adjusting the measurements once I get the bottle in hand. I just mocked up my CO2 tank for reference.

I am still debating if I should put casters up front with wheels out back, or just have two big wheels out back and more like stands up front. This will only move around my two car garage... opinions?

Thanks for looking- and, Thanks for the bender time IanB! :D

My buddys bender... It is a manual tubing bender that can bend some huge tubes, DOM, solid rod, you name it.

I am not sure on the brand, maybe Ian could chime in... it is his. JD2 confirmed.

For the wheels, I would put wheels in the rear and rotating casters in the front. I have a cart that was made that way and it is really easy to manuver in tight spaces, i.e. 2 car garage. It can turn on a dime. I do all my stuff in my 2 car. JMHO.

Casters and fixed wheels out back are part of the plan. thanks for the tips!

Here is where I ended up. The heat here has been killer nearly 100 degrees today...

I notched a few sections yesterday and I test fit some casters. I am using two 8" wheels out back mounted to plates that are gusseted like the rear magnets. And I will have 2 little swivle casters up front.

I gotta hunt down a little sheet metal and make a few shelves with it.

On another note: any of you guys run straight C02? I may until this bottle runs out.

thanks for looking!

Nothing wrong with using CO2 for mig welding. You'll get a little more (not much) splatter, but better penetration with CO2. The 20 pound CO2 cylinder has the same volume of shielding gas a 150CF tank.

I like the round handle for pulling/pushing your cart around.

Thanks for the info!

I like the round handle too, I can hold clamps, magnets, lay my gloves over it all kinds of uses :)

Nice looking project, can't wait to see it finished. Where and how much are those clamps for CO2 bottles. I see them on a couple of rigs but haven't had any luck finding them online. Even my National welders shop didn't know what I was talking about. Said to go to Grainger Supply, but they got nothing online.

I got this one from a friend. Air Gas, a national company got one for my friend pretty cheap. I like the kind that Ultimate Air carries, and they support the site.

I think the one in the pic was around 25ish bucks.

Update?

Looks awesome so far, Can't wait to see it finished. Love the attention to detail. :)

I cut some plate at IanB's house this weekend and tried TIG welding for the first time! :D

What control... or I should say, what potential for control ;) I need lots of practice.

I will post up pics of the progess soon.

This weekend was fun, I got a lot more work done on the cart. I got to use a torch! :)

I cut out a few shelves and a plate for the bottom of the bottle, and ground each of them to fit tonight.

They still need to be welded on, but I want to get it done with the new MIG. I still gotta attach all the casters and give it a shot of paint.

Thanks for looking, any good ideas on tool holders? I am going to make a few hooks to hang the cords from, and I might add a power strip for the tools I will use while metal working.

Now to figure out the 220 in my garage ;)

Very nice.................

Drew, that's one beautiful cart. Want to ship me down one?

I just had a idea... You could make a basket under the handle to store more stuff. Nozzle gel, grinder wheels, pliers/dykes would fit nicely in there.
