Just a couple of quick comments on the technicals ...
1. I believe busting front diffs is not uncommon when wheeling on 100 series rigs with ATRAC. With the common solution being to remove the front driveshaft and front hub flanges, the snap rings are always part of that conversation. My front diff is fine; I just had a snap ring failure. How? I'm not sure. I had just replaced the front wheel bearings, and the DS was the first side I did, and I had never done the job before. I did measure the distance between the flange and the snap ring, and it was less than 0.2mm, per the FSM Perhaps I just got unlucky, perhaps I did something wrong.
2. I do believe a large socket, which would be big enough to go over the circular part of the hub flange housing, would have worked. However, you'd need a bolt too, since those bolts I used are part of the cv axle puller kit.
I just can't convey to you folks know how happy/relieved I am that I did make it without having to spend unreasonable money at a Mr. T dealership along the way to get fixed, along with how welcoming this clubhouse is. When I arrived in Eugene, I sent not one, but two emails off to the local "club" about joining and never heard back. Quite the different experience here, thank you!
Now, for title/tag/DL etc. Has anyone done it recently from out of state into the ABQ area? Any unusual headaches?
One last thing: I do plan on getting my rig into excellent mechanical shape, and then start shopping for a 200 series. If I find the right 200 series, I will be letting the LX470 go, hopefully to a local.
